Without criticizing anyone, it is sometimes necessary to just say that the
facts are unknown, rather than to take someone else's beliefs as facts. There
are several contradictory accounts of the subject John Case's ancestry. Just
because something is in print does not mean it is the truth unless it can be
disproved. We should all be looking for proof of facts, not necessarily
disproof of theories. There are far too many sources of theories. I think
that is what Edee had in mind.
I am yet to be convinced of John Case's (m Spencer) ancestry. I think we can
all be sure he came from England, and that he had at least two brothers,
William and Thomas, and that William CASS was on the Dorset and was probably
the above William Case.
It is possible that John Case was the John CASSON on the Dorset. CASSON
might mean the son of John CASS. But where did Thomas come from? There is a
tale that the father of the three was a William Case that died on the ship.
There is another that John and Thomas debarked in the Caribbean and came on
to America later. Still another tale has Richard and Henry being brothers of
the three.
I do not feel obligated to disprove any of the above -- but I do feel
obligated to READ BEFORE I REAP, that is, study the sources before I include
theories in my genealogy as facts.
