Carl Case (my grand father) told my mother some odd stories when he was younger. She said
that they spoke of his family very little. He said that he had one older brother named
Wayne and one older sister named Esther. He said that his Mother Mary had died during his
birth in January 14, 1930 and his father had died during the war. After there deaths all 3
children were placed in an orphanage in Jefferson, New York. He told her that the 2 older
children were adopted out, but he had been left behind. My mother had assumed as a child
that he was left because of his health issues. Due to Heart related problems he was not
expected to live passed infancy. We have been researching these "facts" and
things have not been panning out quite the way he said.
These's are the facts:
We know from his death records that he was born in Watertown City, New York. My mother
and I plan on to take the 2 1/2 hr ride there some point this summer to try to get his
birth Certificate. We know that he died in December 19, 1991 in Albany, New York. We know
that he served in the Army at one point before the 60's. He got married (some time in
the late 50's, early 60's) to Elizabeth M Viall. They had 3 children together:
Carl Daniel, Charlene Dawn (my mother), And Heather Elizabeth.
Things that that I have Found:
Threw the past 7 or so years I found. A 1930's Census Listing Mary A 33, Esther M 10,
Wayne J 6 And Carl F 2/12. Which fits the time of his birth. I later found that the Mary A
Case listed on the Census is actually Mary Ann Hubert who died in 1964. I found 2
Obituary's in reference to her death as well as one for William. Which has lead me to
believe that he is in fact Williams' child.

I also later found and Obituary for William that lists 5 Children (Mary wouldn't have
know that she was pregnant yet). That seems to match the names that you have listed.

I do not know what the reasons are behind the "story" that my mother was told. I
often wonder if it did have to do with the problem that were going on when my Grandfather
was conceived. My mother was young (far before her teens) when she was told this. There
for I am left to assume that it was a easier was to explain the why the family was not in
contact. And just made up for his childhood threw his children.

Subject: [CASE-FAMILY] William and Charles Case
I am not sure where to begin in this response but I will start by stating
hat I know to be true.
William Case was born in Connecticut in 1776 (where unknown) (1850 census
f Ellisburgh NY,and children's census records) and died 10 Jan 1853
Giddingsville cemetery). Married Cynthia Taber (possibly 22 Oct 1804 in
rovidence, Saratoga County NY, child's indicates he came from Galway in
aratoga)), born 24 Nov 1785 Tiverton RI and died 14 April 1844 Ellisburgh,
uried Giddingsville. William's stone reads "William Case died Jan 10,1853
n the 76 year 6 months of his life." Tracking back that makes him born July
776 and the census records of he and his children confirm birth is
onnecticut. At the time of death son Charles and daughter Tirzah still at
ome.
Charles Carroll Case son (my great grandfather), one of 11 children (source
bituary) born 29 August 1831 Ellisburgh died 8 May 1878, married Esther
nne Green (b19 Jan 1840 Rodman, d 12 April1906 Adams. Childs). Married
859. They along with 3 sons who died early, buried in Adams Rural with
sther's father, Winslow Greene and mother, Mariva Strickland. I have silver
poons with Mariva's and Esther's name engraved on them. They had 2 sons H
lton and William Clifford.
William Clifford Case (my grandfather) was born 19 May 1862 in Cape
incent and died 27 April 1929 in Adams and is buried in the plot of Alton
n an unmarked grave. He married Mary Eldred (29 Jan 1863 Cape Vincent died
3 Sept Baltimore Md) , married 1883 Cape Vincent. They had 3 children,
harles Carroll, Harold Eldred and Clifford Anthony (my father). They
ivorced while living in Canton. Census records indicate he married another
ary (last name unknown to me) and had 2 children, Wayne and Esther (census
ecords). Apparently this marriage also failed and he died at his brother
lton's house in Adams and is buried there.
his is William's obit.
bituary: from Jefferson County Journal, 1 May 1929. Page 6:
ILLIAM C. CASE ------- William C. Case, 68, a former resident of
atertown, died at the home of his brother, H. Alton Case, in this village
riday night at 10. Mr. Case had been ill about one week. He
as born in Cape Vincent on May 19th, 1862, a son of Charles C. and Esther
. Green Case. When he was about two years of age his parents removed to
atertown. His father was superintendent of the R. W. & O. railroad for
bout four years. Mr. Case left Watertown at the age of 20, and since that
ime had resided in Canton and Massena, coming to his brother's home here a
ear and a half ago. He was an expert accountant. After being divorced
rom his first wife, Miss Mary Eldred, he remarried and is survived by his
ife, Mrs. Mary Case, of Watertown; five children, Charles, Harold,
lifford, Wayne, Esther; one brother, H. Alton Case, of Adams. Funeral
ervices were conducted by Rev. Mr. Gardner, pastor of the Methodist
piscopal church of Adams on Sunday, at 2 P. M. at his brother's home in
dams. Burial was made in Rural cemetery, Adams." I have considerable
ocumentation support.
What I do not know- How the name Cory got associated with my family.
harles Case's middle name was not Cory but Carroll ( named after Charles
arroll of Maryland who was admired by William Case). Perhaps there is
nother Charles Cory Case. My name is Charles Case and I had a cousin Major
eneral Charles Carroll Case. Perhaps his second wife was your Mary. The
ame Carl Francis does not appear in the obit and note he died in 1929 and
he birth of Carl you state as 1930, a possibility but not likely
onsidering the amount of time he spent at his brother's house The name
sther and Wayne appear in both counts so perhaps this is the same worthless
illiam Case. If you are looking at his second family (which he also left),
y records would be of little value to you to trace downward. my proven
ecords of William (1776-1853) do not go back. However Cynthia Taber's
ecords are well documented. References to this Case branch exist in both
hilds and Hough histories of Jefferson County, NY. I am listed in the Case
NA project and it is a possibility that William was born to Case's leaving
outhhold when the British invaded Long Island in 1776. This group went to
onnecticut and could account for William's birth in that state as noted in
arious census records. Another Case line not in my DNA line "claims" this
ut has no proof either.
