For those researching the Case line of Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas. I have
located and transcribed the will of Joshua Caise [sic] who died in Randolph
County, IL in 1833. Previously we believed his name to be Jonathan, as he was
enumerated as such in the 1830 Federal Census. In other Probate Record entries,
Jackson is listed as Andrew Jackson. His will was witnessed by John C. Crozier
and Luther Simmons, who were brothers in law of each other, Simmons being the
husband of Nancy Crozier, sister to John C. Crozier. Joshua died in September
1833.
August 18, 1833 To all who this may concern know ye, that I Joshua Caise of
Randolph County State of Illinois, being weak in body but sound in mind do make
and bequeath this my last will to all my estate Real and personal as follows
(viz) after all my just debts is paid; I do allow my son Jackson to have the
tract of land described as follows the W half of the SE quarter of section two
in Township 4 S of Range 8 W containing 80 acres, and I do allow my wife and the
rest of my children to have the use and management of the farm as long as she
remains my widow, and I do allow my wife Catharine one bedstead bed and bedding,
and I do allow my wife and children to have the use of all my personal property
as long as she remains my widow, and so soon as she ceases to be my widow I do
allow an equal divide of all personal property then remaining to my daughters
Ollive, [sic] Charlott, [sic] and Independance [sic].
