<<"Simsbury Cemetery Gravestone Inscriptions" (vol. 1 - The Old Section)
compiled by Joyce A. Cahill
I did notice in the instructions on using this book that it clarifies that
Hopmeadow Cemetery, Simsbury Center Cemetery and Center Cemetery
are all one and the same.
Some of the inscriptions on the stones are positively creepy, i.e. Lucy Case
d. 6/27/1779, wife of Moses Case (Sect A, row 28) "Come view the Grave,
See where I lie, Remember you are born to die". This seems to be a favorite
as it's repeated in variations on other headstones.
Some tear your heart out (especially if you're a parent): Case, Ina Bell d.
10/25/1889, age 3 yrs 6 mos, dau of Lewis W. and Angenet (year could
be 1880) "Budded on earth to bloom in Heaven";
Case, Justin, d 6/22/1802, age 7 yrs, son of Jesse Jr. & Sarah: "Son of
Jesse Case, Jr. & Sarah, his wife, was killed by the fall of a tree, June
22,1802 aged 7 years. His life was short & delightful, His death sudden &
frightful. But God has taken him and we hope to realms of endless day".
Best wishes for a peaceful New Year!
