Thanks for your response, George. I learned of the Mayo name in the
family only a few months ago when I finally received the death
certificates for Datey and David Case's son, Elisha/Lisha Mayo Case.
From that document I learned that Elisha's middle name was "Mayo", that
he was born in PA, and that his mother's maiden name was Datie Mayo also
born in PA. The "informant" was William Case of Crown Point. (I don't
know how William was related - I've found nothing on him.) David and
Datie's children, Elisha (1824-1904) and Hiram (1827- )
were born in PA. Benjamin (1829-1918), Elizabeth (1831- ), Amanda (1834-
), and Maria A. (1836-1883), I have listed as having been born in New
York. Their youngest child, Darius (1840- ) was born in PA.
Elisha Case was in Indiana in 1854 because that is when he married
Rebecca Hough who was born in Indiana. She was from a long line of the
Hough family, Quakers who came to America in the mid 1600's and settled
in PA. I've found mention of a Case family among the Quakers (I couldn't
link it to mine), but no Mayo family -- the mystery goes on!!??
