George -
Thank you for your information about Mr Atkinson - it's definitely spelt Atchinson in the will, although it may well be the same person.
You probably have this information, but just in case (no pun intended) you don't, I see that The Proceedings of the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society (see http://www.dor-mus.demon.co.uk/) have an article on the Case family, button manufacturers, 18th and 19th cent., (issues 35 pp71-74).

Does anyone have any information on any Case families in Canaan, Troy, or
Nassau, NY? (1780-1840)
My Samuel E Gibbs' death cert. says he was b in Canaan, NY. Every census
he was ever in says he was b in CT. There is a possibility that his
father is Heman Gibbs of Litchfield, CT. So far, I still cannot make a
connection. Heman was b in Litchfield, but evidently did not grow up,
marry, or raise a family there. Samuel E Gibbs did live in Canaan, NY,
at one time. The interesting part is that in the same area, there is a
Canaan, CT, Canaan, MA, and Canaan, NY. So far, I have struck out in CT.

A similar proposal is afoot in the UK.
The government claim that it is for the purposes of ensuring privacy and to prevent fraud e.g. creating a false identity.
Criminals, of course, will find alternative methods of creating false iD's.
Full certificates will only be issued to those who can claim direct ancestory and have a good reason for requiring a certificate.

There is proposed legislation to prohibit public access to vital records
for the state of Indiana!
House Bill (HB) 1540 can be read online at
http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2003/IN/IN1540.1.html
Some of the language in HB 1540 is:
"h. When one hundred (100) years has elapsed after the date of birth,
the records of those events in the custody of the state or local
registrar shall become available to the public....." There is much more
to read concerning HB 1540.
Have I gotten your attention yet? I sure hope so and I hope that each
and every one of us contacts our legislators about this. We've got to
contact our legistatures immediately telling them of our opposition
regarding HB 1540 as genealogists and family historians.
Please read on:
In this morning's Indianapolis Star in Section B City & State on page
3, House Bill 1540 is listed for Hearing on Wednesday morning at 10:30
from the Public Health Committee. Our emails and phone calls to
legislators will need to start immediately with follow up letters in the
mail on Monday!
Express your opposition to proposed HB 1540 adopting new privacy
standards for Indiana's public vital records!
Even if you live outside the state of Indiana you may be affected by
this HB. This applies to all of us - If we, at some point, wish to
become a member of an organization that requires us to prove our lineage
and HB 1540 becomes a law we will not have access to birth or death
records to do this. Our desire to become a members of any organization
that requires us to prove our lineage may be in jeopardy! Please contact
the persons that have authored this proposed legislature. The site where
you can find email address for IN Representatives is
http://www.in.gov/cgi-bin/legislative/contact/contact.pl
We are all concerned about identity theft. The state of Indiana requires
information from us that should safeguard the issues of theft identity.
Please contact your representatives by email, phone and follow-up with a
letter.
Thank you for reading this email.

Hello list,
I am wondering if anyone has the following CASE line:
Lola May LANTZ CASE (SEP 1887 - JAN 1957). She lived in Casper and Cheyenne Wyoming and is buried in Ft. Collins, Colorado.
Her sisters were Fay and Bessie.
She may have had a daughter, Leah Jean CASE HARRIS (DEC 1907 - JUL 1958) believed to be the wife of Herb G. HARRIS
I have information on her parents. I would like to learn about her descendants.
Thanks so much,
D. Johnson
