Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Greetings,
I was hoping there may be some researchers out there
that have researched the name change from CASE to
CASS.
Dr. Chester Isaac Harmonway CASE changed the spelling to CASS in Ripley County, Indiana. The inscription for his wife Martha 'Mattie' Thompson CASE is shown on the Case Clearing House.
Can anyone help me with info about the descendants
of Chester and Martha Case/Cass or the descendants
of his first wife Jane Burroughs Case/Cass?
THANKS and GOD BLESS! Bob boblin(a)bright.net
I am cross posting this to all the list I subscribe to to be safe, I am
sorry for anyone whom it may offend as no genealogy related, but it is
important in this day and age that everyone be aware of virus risk.
If the List admins would please share this information across the boards?
This morning I received an email from Linda Camp, it was a reply to the
posting I made to the McCurdy list yesterday. This email contained an
attachment that was infected with the virus known as W32/BadTrans@MM
Information concerning this virus can be found at
http://vil.mcafeeasap.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99069
If the link does not work (it should) the information is posted here in
this email.

Virus Characteristics
This mass mailing worm attempts to send itself using Microsoft Outlook by
replying to unread email messages. It also drops a remote access trojan
(detected as Backdoor-NK.svr with the 4134 DATs; detected heuristically as
New Backdoor prior to the 4134 DAT release).
When run, the worm displays a message box entitled, "Install error" which
reads, "File data corrupt: probably due to a bad data transmission or bad
disk access." A copy is saved into the WINDOWS directory as INETD.EXE and an
entry is entered into the WIN.INI file to run INETD.EXE at startup.
KERN32.EXE (a backdoor trojan), and HKSDLL.DLL (a keylogger DLL detected as
DUNpws.av) are written to the WINDOWS SYSTEM directory, and a registry entry
is created to load the trojan upon system startup.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
RunOnce\kernel32=kern32.exe
Note: Under WinNT/2K, an additional registry key value is entered instead of
a WIN.INI entry:
HKEY_USERS\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\
CurrentVersion\Windows\RUN=%WinDir%\INETD.EXE
Once running, the trojan attempts to mail the victim's IP Address to the
author. Once this information is obtained, the author can connect to the
infected system via the Internet and steal personal information such as
usernames, and passwords. In addition, the trojan also contains a keylogger
program which is capable of capturing other vital information such as credit
card and bank account numbers and passwords.
The next time Windows is loaded, the worm attempts to email itself by
replying to unread messages in Microsoft Outlook folders. The worm will be
attached to these messages using one of the following filenames (note that
some of these filenames are also associated with other threats, such as
W95/MTX.gen@M):

Indications Of Infection
- Presence of the file %WinDir%\INETD.EXE
- Presence of the file %SysDir%\KERN32.EXE
- Email correspondence noting that you've sent them an attachment when you
did not.
Removal Instructions
Use specified engine and DAT files for detection and removal.
Manual Removal Instructions
Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode
Delete the files mentioned
Restart Windows
Delete the registry keys as mentioned
Windows ME Info:
NOTE: Windows ME utilizes a backup utility that backs up selected files
automatically to the C:\_Restore folder. This means that an infected file
could be stored there as a backup file, and VirusScan will be unable to
delete these files. These instructions explain how to remove the infected
files from the C:\_Restore folder.
Disabling the Restore Utility
1. Right click the My Computer icon on the Desktop.
2. Click on the Performance Tab.
3. Click on the File System button.
4. Click on the Troubleshooting Tab.
5. Put a check mark next to "Disable System Restore".
6. Click the Apply button.
7. Click the Close button.
8. Click the Close button again.
9. You will be prompted to restart the computer. Click Yes.
NOTE: The Restore Utility will now be disabled.
10. Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
11. Run a scan with VirusScan to delete all infected files, or browse the
the file's located in the C:\_Restore folder and remove the file's.
12. After removing the desired files, restart the computer normally.
NOTE: To re-enable the Restore Utility, follow steps 1-9 and on step 5
remove the check mark next to "Disable System Restore". The infected file's
are removed and the System Restore is once again active.

Hi Everyone,
Is there anyone here that is close to the RIDGEVILLE CENTER Cemetery,
in Lorain County, OH, that would be willing to take pictures of 4
headstones for me?
If so, please email me so we can discuss details of cost...
Thanks!
Lori
John, William H Case is 3rd great grandfather of both my mother and father. His wife was Anna E Cool. My mother descends from Samuel H Case and Jane B Waldron (These Waldron's are distantly related to the Roosevelt's). My father descends from Henry's daughter Ann who married Samuel L Leigh.
The area that you are looking for should be Flemington, Hunterdon County, NJ.
I have lots more on this line and would be very interested in your information as well.

There is a John Case born about 1760 who married a Sarah Barber I believe
and was related to the Barber's in Otis, Mass, Reuben and Abel.
A Timothy , Ozias, and Truman Case resided there in 1800 along with their
sisters married to the kBarbers.

I have Edwin S. Moe(1804-1894) m. Mehitabel "Hitty" Case(1806-1865) on
9/10/1827 in Lorain Co., OH. Mehitabel was a sister of Orrin.
Abraham Fleming m. Adeline Case, another sister of Orrin and King.
I also have a sister, Laura(1798-1863) died Ridgefield (same as Ridgeville?),
OH, but m. to a Marcus Case.
The above family is documented back to John Case/Sarah Spencer in Duncan's
book.
I don't have Emily Barber in my file so connection is unknown to me.
