Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Thank you Anne and Candy!
I believe that I was off track due to having Warren's middle initial as "L'
instead of "P", and also discovering from the 1850 census that he came from NY.
This is two big breakthroughs in one week! Internet genealogy is truly
amazing, as are these mail-lists. You both have saved me a lot of trouble in
finding these links.
I would appreciate any additional info you might be able to send.
Let me know if you want any further info on Warren's branch. There are several
links to a very confusing group of Dexter's as well. I am currently trying to
get my scanner re-installed on a new computer and have a great picture of
Warren's grandson John Case, my grandmother Minnie Dexter Case, and some church
records.
I wish I could obtain a copy of Ruth Cost Duncan's book. I have a copy of "The
Yankee Generations" but it is incomplete on many of the Case lines from John
and Sarah. I had long suspected Warren linked to them but could not figure out
how to prove it until now.

Hello everyone here--I am also a descendant of Thomas Case and Elizabeth Minyard--would like to get together with others of this family--I also have info to share.
Kathy Diaz
Dear Todd Case,
I bet your Warren L. Case is the same as my Warren P. Case if not then they
must be related. I have letters from -------Pa to Aunt Betsey about Judson
from Mary and I think about twins too. This is from memory as I just moved
and everything is in boxes. Here is my family:
Pelatiah Case m Appia Loomis (1771-1851) they came from Winsor Conn. and
moved into Cowlesville, Wyoming co., NY.
Their children: Pelatiah CaseJr, Appia Case, Chauncey Case, Aurelia Throop,
and Martin Case (1807-1893)
Martin Case m Lucinda Sprague (1809-1879) and 2nd Caroline S. Rowley (widow).
Their children Amelia Loomis, Warren P. Case, Lucy Hart, Loretta Pearson,
and Harlow Case.
Harlow Case (1829-1903) m Betsey North (1834-1901) Their children: Alice A.
Case, Ben N. Case and Martin A. Case.
Martin A. Case (1861-1947) m Ida Franklin (1857-1928) Their children:
Homer F. Case (1891-1943) and Jessie A. Case (1893-1943)
Jessie A Case m Samuel F. Courter (1890-1954). Their children Richard Case
Courter and William Franklin Courter
Richard C. Courter (1917) m Jean McMurdo. Their Children: Candace Courter
Graser (1943), Betsey Courter Corby (1945) and Susan Courter Obletz (1946).
My Harlow Case was farmer, businessman and drummer (peddler) he and his
brother Warren sold shoe polish by traveling west for orders. I have lots of
letters from both men and family bibles. Are we related? what is your
connection to Warren Case?
Excited, Candy Graser
Buffalo NY
PS on second thought, my Warren P might be a combination of two men. From
the letters I thought Warren P was called Pel for Pelatiah. I have letters
signed both Warren and Pel. It is just possible that your Warren L is for
Loomis and Pel is another brother of my Harlow or even his 1st cousin. The
bible does not list Pelatiah as brother of Harlow but does list Warren. I
also have a loose Case named Homer, I have letters and pictures of him from
Chicago and St. Louis. Where do you live?
I have CASE ancestors in Mississippi. The following genealogy report comes
from data that I found on <www.familysearch.org>. I have a question about
this information. I am not convinced that Loshier Ann ALLEN is the child
of Hyrum C. ALLEN and Elizabeth Jane CASE. Does anyone have a verified
list of the children of Hyrum and Elizabeth, or does anyone know who the
parents of Loshier Ann ALLEN really are?
Thank you,
Susan Wood

You're not alone. My Case line is all said to have been from Mississippi,
(census and death certificates, etc.). I've found many Case families there,
although I have yet to find a trace of any that could be my family there.
I have an S. C. Case who married Stacy Sullivan there and they had three
children there. What is your line?

I too am researching an Elizabeth Vivian Case. All I know is that she was
born on 22 February 1875. She married Charles Brannock Wilkinson about 1906.
He was born in Hommochitto, Mississippi. He was the son of Joseph Brannock
Wilkinson and Rebecca Dunn.
They had the following children:
Brannock Charles Wilkinson born 22 Feb 1907
Earl Wilkinson
Ray Wilkinson
Hazel Wilkinson
Dolly Wilkinson
Maydea Wilkinson
Ethyl Wilkinson
Louise Wilkinson
Irma Wilkinson born 3 June 1910 in Bunkie, Mississippi
Both Elizabeth Vivian Case and her husband are buried in Roseland Cemetary,
Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I need help as to her parents. Does anyone
recognize anything? Thanks I need all the help possible.

Hi folks,
Since most of the posts here deal with CASE in the Northeast US, I am
wondering if there are any of you working on CASE in Mississippi. That is my
only concern, at least until I can trace my CASE relations to someplace prior
to Mississippi, and I am wondering if I am the only one here.

Perspective - Life 100 years ago
>From a book called "When My Grandmother Was a Child" by Leigh W.
Rutledge,
which begins, "In the summer of 1900, when my grandmother was a child..."
The average life expectancy in the United States was forty-seven.
Only 14 percent of the homes in the United States had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from
Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.
There were only 8,000 cars in the US and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The
maximum speed limit in most cities was ten mph.
Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily
populated
than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only
the
twenty-first most populous state in the Union.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.
The average wage in the US was twenty-two cents an hour. The average U.S.
worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist
$2500
per year, a veterinarian between $1500 and $4000 per year, and a
mechanical
engineer about $5000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births in the United States took place at
home.
Ninety percent of all US physicians had no college education. Instead,
they
attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and
by
the government as "substandard."
Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee
cost fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg
yolks
for shampoo.
Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for
any reason, either as travelers or immigrants.
The five leading causes of death in the US were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke.
The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and
Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet.
Drive-by shootings--in which teenage boys galloped down the street on
horses and started randomly shooting at houses, carriages, or anything
else
that caught their fancy--were an ongoing problem in Denver and other
cities
in the West.
The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was thirty. The remote desert
community
was inhabited by only a handful of ranchers and their families.
Plutonium, insulin, and antibiotics hadn't been discovered yet. Scotch
tape, crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
One in ten U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all
Americans had graduated from high school.
Some medical authorities warned that professional seamstresses were apt
to
become sexually aroused by the steady rhythm, hour after hour, of the
sewing machine's foot pedals. They recommended slipping bromide-which was
thought to diminish sexual desire--into the women's drinking water.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at
corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the
complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and the
bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health."
Coca-Cola contained cocaine instead of caffeine.
Punch-card data processing had recently been developed, and early
predecessors of the modern computer were used for the first time by the
government to help compile the 1900 census.
Eighteen percent of households in the United States had at least one
full-time servant or domestic.
There were about 230 reported murders in the U.S. annually.

Since I saw some other researchers looking for Cases in NY (that may be
related) I thought I would throw my dead-end into the pile. I am looking for
the parents/ancestors of Warren L. Case (1823-1904). The 1850 census shows him
living in Damascus, Wayne Co., PA and originating from NY (thanks for the
detail Mr. Census Taker.)
Warren had 7 children: Elam, Amiah, Judson, Mary, Ann, George, and Nettie. He
married Laura Dexter after 1850 it appears since she was not mentioned in the
census.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be cross-posting this to the
Wayne Co. list also. Willing to share anything I have.

_?__ SARGENT. LUCINDA CASE/JOHN POWERS are my grandparents. Thank you, Lois
>Did your William stay in New York ?
No, I am having a hard time connecting him, he is the father of Harvey, who
was born in 1830 Northfield, Vt or NY, VT has no record of him. Harvey was
in Claremont, NH in 1850, and I have all the info from there. It is going
back to his birth that I can't seem to do.
William would have been born in 1800, he married Mary Fowler of NY State. I
believe he is the father of Rev. Ira Case b. 1820.
I think that William married Almira White (2nd marriage) .
Buried in Pleasant Street Cemetery, Claremont, NH are:
Sec. B Lot 21
Harvey Case Nov 13, 1830 -Dec 16, 1910
his wife Esther Ann Roberts July 25, 1838 - Nov 13, 1920
their children: Lilla E.; Esther(d-1859); ***Ella B.(d-Sept 28, 1882)***
her parents: Elindore Roberts and Ann Esther Archer Roberts
also: son of John Roberts and Dau of John Roberts (John was Elindore's son)
Mary Freeman (Harvey's dau) 1869-1940
now I have:
Sec. B Lot 76
William Case d- Sept 17, 1854 (aged 54)
his wife- Almira White d-Jan 9, 1886
their children:
Mary M. Case Jan 1817 - Nov 5, 1861
Horace G. Case Nov 3, 1847 - May 29, 1914 ***
Mary A. Case Nov 5, 1844 - Aug 18, 1910
Melissa A. Case Nove 19, 1849 - Aug 28, 1902
Harlan Case d- Oct 1, 1854 (aged 3 yrs) son of Wm & A. Case
also buried here on the back side of this plot is:
Rev. Ira Case Aug 11, 1820 - March 6, 1899
his wife - Mary Ann Eaton Apr 17, 1826 - March 15, 1900
Son of Ira d- June 28, 1855
also buried in this cemetery is
Sec B
(William) Harrison Case Apr 13 1846 - Dec 16, 1913 (this is Wm & Almira's son)
his wife Fannie M. Nott Jan 19, 1844 - Sept 19, 1915
Sec H Lot 2:
William E. Case (this is Harvey's son)- my great grandfather
his wife Helen M. Alexander
their children: Marian Blare; Archie; Willie; Wilbur E.; Harvey G.; Henry
Elroy and Eveline May.
Harvey's Death Certificate states that he had been a resident of Claremont
for 55 yrs (however he is listed in the 1850 Census as living in Claremont,
he was 19yrs old)
His birth is Nov 12, 1830 in Northfield, NY
His parents: William Case and Mary Fowler
Why I think that the above William married to Almira White is Harvey's father
is that the age and area are matches, but also in Harvey's daughter Ella B
Case's obit in the newspaper it stakes that the funeral was held in the home
of her uncle, Horace G. Case. Horace G. Case is William and Almira's son. I
have not found many records to support Ira's life. I assume he is William's
son because he is buried in the same plot as William. Ira is 10 yrs older
than Harvey.
Now comes finding the birthplace of Harvey. I have several records conflicts
here. Some state Claremont, NH, which I know is not right. Some state
Northfield, VT, Vershire, VT, I have checked these and cannot find any record
of Harvey living there. However the 1830 Census in Northfield, Vt does list
a William Case, yet I can find no other records on William or Harvey in VT.
Harvey's son William E.'s marriage record lists Harvey bp as NY. W. Harrison
(William's son) lists William's bp as NY as does his son Horace G. birth
record. Since I cannot find any record's in VT I am now trying NY, although
I have not done research in NY and don't know where to begin. I thought by
sending this plea out to the Case family someone might find a clue.
Thanks, Deb (Case) Donovan
My William married my Mother Doris Edna Clift in Morristown New Jersey in
October 1932. His brothers and Mother stayed in the New York New Jersey area
as well.
My Grandfather John Jay Case married Anna Lloyd in 1897 in Valpariso, Peru.
They had three children: John, William Lyon and Stanley. John Jay was a
mining engineer who had lived in Montana and then South America. They all
came back to the US around 1928-1932. William Lyon was my father. John had a
wife and five children in the Montana area prior to marrying Anna Lloyd.
Would love any information. Thank you ,Margaret
I am still trying to find info about the 2 Case families listed in the 1850
