To all my fellow researchers. My brother is a truck driver. He gave me a
program today that just blew my mind. It is a travel program that he
purchased at Walmart for $9.95. It is called Travel Maps USA by Cosmi.
It shows all the cemeteries in the United States. All the County Roads.
And all the main roads. You can search by Address, City, State, County,
Zip Code, Airport, and Other Places. In Other Places you can put the
name of the Cemetery that you are trying to find and it will show you
exactly where it is. You can zoom in on the cemetery and it will show
you the layout of the cemetery When you first find the cemetery it shows
2 crosses side by side. Click on them and the cemetery layout will
appear. No more asking anyone how to get to that cemetery. You can put
in your address and the address of the cemetery and it will give you
turn by turn directions to it. Let me tell you it is a must for all of
us researchersand the price is right and you can get it at your nearby
walmart. When you look for it it will be in a cd case on a rack. It is
not in a box. There are no instructions with the program. The program
has a built in help file. Take my word for it, it is a must for all of
us researchers.<<

Just returned to the list after an absence of several weeks, so will run my
query again.
Am researching my 2nd gr.grandfather, Hull Case, b 1795, in CT., md Cynthia
Baker.
Hull CASE appears in the 1820 census records for N.Y. state, Genessee
county, Leroy township, with one female, 16 to 26 years of age, presumably
his wife, Cynthia Baker CASE, and one male child, under 10 years of age,
presumably Daniel. Daniel was born in 1820, so would have been less than 1
year of age.
Hull CASE also appears in the 1830 N.Y. census, Livingston county,
Leicester township, with one male child(under 5 years of age) who is
unidentified, one male child(of 10 and under 15), presumably Daniel(10),
one female child(of 5 and under 10), Caroline(8), and one adult female (of
30 and under 40), presumably his wife, Cynthia Baker CASE(32).
On 6 July, 1995, a search of National Archives film #M-602, Index to War of
1812 (volunteer) was made . Hull Case was found to have been a Corporal in
Crosby's Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers.
Hull disappears after 1830, and Cynthia is named as head of family in the
1840 and 1850 NY censuses and moves to Genessee County, Michigan prior to
the 1860 census.
Does this strike a chord with any Case "cousins"?

African Americans did own slaves but not many in the great numbers used on
white southern plantations. Many who did own them, owned one or two.
Although in one book I read about plantation houses in the south one black
owner was certainly in competion with his white neighbors in ownership.
Slavery in Africa was a commodity. Slaves were traded inland for goods at
"trading posts" on their journey to the sea. Africans sold Africans of
warring and enemy tribes. When the trade ended these same trading posts were
used for non human commodities...such as palm oil. Most of the Africans
sent to the west came from the West coast of Africa. The Africans captured
in Eastern Africa went to the Arabic countries.
I agree "The Slave Trade" by Hugh Thomas is a good book. Another
interesting book is "Africanisms in America" which has a chapter on which
countries slaves came from and where they docked here. Good material for
someone searching that area. JAZZ

Hi,
I would be interested in how she discovered that. Where (what sources) did
she get her information and what country in Africa? Thanks. Jazz
Although this may be a touchy subject, out of curiosity, has anyone
come across evidence that the John-Sarah Case line in CT owned any
slaves?
My officemate is an African American woman who in doing her family
research discovered that her African ancestors were slave traders.

David,
There was a case in 1783 in England concerning the slave ship "Zong" which
was owned by William Gregson and George Case both well known merchants of
Liverpool.
Doesn't matter what the last name is whether its Case or Jones, whether one
owned slaves does not mean the other did. My Case's out of Mason Co. Ky.
never owned slaves but were indentured themselves, they were poor and stayed
poor. However some other Case may have. Yes, African Americans owned slaves
here, one black lady in Virginia owned more then most. It is a historical
fact that several black slave owners supported Jefferson Davis, a letter to
him is well documented. Africa supported slavery, it delivered the slaves to
the prisons in chains at the shorelines for the ships to pick up. It is a
touchy subject and should not be, we make it that. Read "The Slave Trade ''
By Hugh Thomas, he spares no one. The Africans Kings of Ashanti, Dalomey,
Benin, Loango, Congo and Mozambique contributed greatly to the slave trade
from prisoners taken in war and kidnappings. It was all over the world. We
only seem to think the South did it.These slaves were usually procured by
barter with the African monarchs or merchants who were established on the
estuaries of nearly all the African rivers. It was a time ands its over, at
least in America.
I have been working on other brances of my family tree, but now have returned
to the Case branch. I descend from John-Richard-Richard-Uriah.
Is there any solid documentation as to who was the father of John Trustin
Case, husband of Sarah Spencer.
As I look at the LDS data base and the Case Family Forum I am coming across
some folks who say that John's father was William and others who say his
father was Richard.
Does anyone know for sure/
Thanks

At the risk of getting inundated, I would like to contact anyone with
relations using the name Ida, Idah, Bell or Belle in Iowa (or possibly
Missouri) between approximately 1850 to 1880. My great grandfather's
daughters name was Ida Bell Case (with possible spelling variants). Both my
grandfather John and his sister Ida were orphaned at an early age.
According to the 1880 census my great grandfather John Samuel Case (name
variants occur) was born in 1858 in Iowa. I'm making a guess that his
daughter was named after a relative. Any takers??
The thing that sparked off this line of enquiry was a querry from someone
which I inadvertently lost. They had a relative named Belle in Iowa. I
appologize to whoever it was. Please contact me. Thanks.
Regards and Thanks, John
