Hi everyone,
I haven't posted this for a while so thought I would do so again since
there is so much traffic going on in the list.
I'm looking for Giles W. Case born about 1814 in Ohio. He married
Terrissa Ellen Norris about 1832 in Delaware Co, Ohio. On the 1850 census
for Delaware Co he's listed as having eight children, Betsey--18, Cicero
L.--14, Dwight--12, Emmory--9, Farrington--6, Orpha--4, Gilbert--2, and
George--8 mo. I know sometime after 1850 he remarried and had at least two
more sons, Albert F. born in 1865, and Miles (I have no birth year for him.)
If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.
Thanks, Sherry Case
Peggy,
Thanks for the info on the MD CASE line. If I understood correctly, the
legend is that the MD CASE branch is possibly Irish, while the
northern/NY/CT branch is known to be English. Is that right? In addition,
no one knows if the MD line is connected to the southern/NC line. I do know
that the CASE family was in the Old Buncombe Co., NC area at least by 1800.
Does anyone know how they got there, i.e. the migration route?
Once again, any answers - including unproven theories, undocumented
speculation and "hearsay" - appreciated! <g>

Hi, with all this southern Case talk I thought I would through out mine
again and see what happens.
Nancy Case b. c. 1805 in TN according to the census. Her father was C.
Case and her mother N. Case. (father thought to be named Caleb - possibly)
She married in TN to Archibald F. Crisp c. 1820 - 1824 and they moved
their family to Livingston Co., KY. She may have had a sister who spelled
the name Cass (but this may be a false lead). Nancy Ann Case died 1858 in
Caldwell Co. KY.
Please, does this sound familiar to anyone. Been looking for her for years
and can't get any further than this.
Thanks
AmyAnn
If I remember correctly someone on here mentioned their Case's from Pike Co
Ky. I had a couple written down, here they are--Ella Case and Sam Branham 27th
of June , 1894. Matilda Case and Nathan Ratliff--May 15, 1834.--Nancy Case
and Charles Ramey, 27th of Jan. 1840.

Cheryl,
Yes, Irish --maybe--- until I find differently. As far as I no, no one has
connected these two branches, if they had we sure wouldn't be having all this
trouble. A lot of the names seem to be different--if you get away from the
usual "James or John." Migration along with land grants from the Rev. war
service, took mine to Kentucky. In looking at my own ancestors history, I find
that they indeed seemed to settle within what we call the Scotts, Irish areas
here in the South. My Case's married into other Irish or Scott familys. They
would tend to do so in a celtic heirtage. My Grandmother Mamie Case was a
Dryden , they came from Scottland ( God bless em) My GG Grandfather Case
married an Irish lady also and on and on. I wore her family colors (tartan)
for our St. Patricks Day parade. There is no English in my Case line that I
have ever seen so I tend to lean the way of "Irish as correct at this point."
Peg
Delores, I do not recognize any of those names, but my Horatio Case was in
Ohio in 1824 and 1827. He had two children there, don't know what county.
They were Lucinda Case and Thomas Jefferson Case. Then he had another
child, Augustus D. Case in 1833 in INDIANA. Of course, as I mentioned
before, his first three children, George Washington Case, James Madison
Case and Andrew Jackson Case were all born in Bracken co., KY 1812 - 1818.
Horatio was born Montgomery co., MD 1791. There just has to be a connect
somewhere?

I have this Case info:
James Case married Sarah Adams 12/15/1808 in Bracken County, Ky. Do not know
from whence he came. There is a possibility that he may have been married
previously to a Sarah Burton in 1801....just a possibility.
James and Sarah Case had John Case, born 1812, Married 1832, died 1885; who
married Susan Margaret Estep from Maryland. They were married in Bracken
County in 1832; mother of the groom was Sarah Case; mother of the bride was
Ellinder Devaun, consent. I do not know where John was born....could have
been Maryland....could have been Maryland where he and Susan Margaret met..and
then married in Bracken County.
Maybe somewhere all of us connect......
I will lookup some of the Case names that have been mentioned previously to
see what I can find in my Bracken County books and will post my findings to
the list
at a later date....there are a LOT of Cases (which includes me).
Bye,

Seeing all the traffic about the MD CASE family line, and knowing that there
is a northern CASE family that began in NY/CT - I was wondering - does
anyone have an approximate idea of who originated the southern/NC CASE
family line? Was the southern/NC CASE family related to the MD branch, or
was it separate? Does anyone know, or is the southern CASE family still
looking for its progenitor?
Obviously, I belong to the southern CASE branch, specifically, William Case,
Sr. (born abt 1792 in GA), who is probably related to the Old Buncombe Co.,
NC group.
Any answers appreciated!

A descendant of Dr. Erastus Case recently wrote that much of Dr. Case's
research was from correspondence with Case families in the early 1900's. I
really appreciate that post.
Mrs. Duncan had access to Dr. Case's manuscripts at the CT State Library
when she wrote the book. She is not a Case descendant. Mrs. Duncan lives in
CT and combined CT vital records with Dr. Case's manuscripts.
As Dr. Case's descendant said, his manuscripts involved boxes of info that
are at the CT library. I can't imagine the work that went into Mrs. Duncan's
book. I received a request today from another list on a Case. Mrs. Duncan's
book brought that line down to this person's ancestor b. 1905. Certainly
this is a rarity but shows the work that Dr. Case & Mrs. Duncan have done.
I spoke to Mrs. Duncan today. Her books were sold out about 5 or 6 years
ago. In not to distant past she was willing to copy the book but is no
longer willing to do that.
Edee has entered into her Case data base Mrs. Duncan's descendants of John
Case from her book. That alone is a job I sure wouldn't undertake. That is
just a portion of what Edee has in her data base. I would consider that one
Case family. There are many other Cases not descended from John & Sarah
Spencer. That's why her data base is so invaluable . She has Cases from all
kinds of sources.
Most any of us would be glad to help. Sure there will be mistakes, but as
Mrs. Duncan said "Her book was meant to be an aid". Am on many lists but
none that are as informative as the Case list.
Again - Thanks for Dr. Erastus Case's descendant posting.

Hello Peggy, Are you shocked at finding the name Shadrack Case because 1)
it is a strange name? or 2) you have been looking for it? I have been
reading messages for a while now and this is the first time I have seen
that name mentioned. I am looking for a Shadrack or a James as father to
my Horatio Case b. 1791 Montgomery co., MD m. Mary/Polly ___. But this
does not look like the right age? What year was that census with Shadrack,
also 1840? Horatio's first 3 children were b. in Bracken co., KY,
including George Washington Case who m. Sarah Jackson 1838 in Ind. Does
anyone know of these people?

Cheryl,
I only no that according to a Kentucky cenus, James Jr. (who later went to
Mo.) Edmund, William age 60 and Rebecca , John age 55,and his wife Matilda.
Zephaniah age 70 and Elizabeth, Edward age 50 and his wife Delilah, are named
as heirs in James Case's will , year 1853 . All in the Ky. cenus Mason Co.are
said to be born in Maryland. Also named were Edmund ( my gg grandfather) who
was born in Ky and married to Anna, along with Edward Jr. and his wife Sarah
then Miles W. age 30 br. in Ky. In the earlier 1830 or so one census says that
there is one in the household not naturalized. From old family stories I
always heard that we were Irish, I truly do not no if that is so or not. If it
is then that may help explain why we don't fit in with those English Case's
--at least we don't seem to yet. My James Case bought a pacel of land in Ky.
in 1807. On the waters of North Fork. Of course we have alot of "James's
here'', one grandfather, Father and son, making it even more confusing. I
have one James Case deceased in 1834 and 1853. Oh gee whiz, I got to go make a
strong drink this gets me tired everytime, or is it the Irish lurking in me?
Peggy.

Hi,
Thanks for replying. I know my Alexander Case was born in MD abt 1778 and his
wife Elizabeth abt 1784 in MD. They were in Clermont Co. OH on the 1820
census and their children were Nelson, Lloyd, John, Joseph, George W.?, Sally,
Tabitha, Nancy Ann, and Mary Ann. Three daughters married three McElfresh
brothers in Clermont Co. OH. I know there were many Case's across the Ohio
River in Bracken Co., but have never been able to make a connection. I have
heard from someone who has information that may make the connection. Sounds
as though the Case family headed west like my McElfresh's. I'll keep your
information and also keep you informed of any other information I find with
these new clues. Again, thanks for replying. I'm sure we will connect
somewhere along the line.
Delores
Hi Joni,
I'm so glad to hear from you!! All I've ever seen are Case's from Connecticut
or New York. I also received a reply from another Case that looks as though
she is related, and it may give me the connection to the Bracken Co. Case's
being related to my Clermont Co. OH Case's. I felt sure they were related,
but could not make the connection. As soon as I get the information from the
one source, I'll get back with you. They must all be related. I have
Alexander Case, b. abt 1778 MD, his wife Elizabeth b. abt 1784 MD, and their
children Nelson, Lloyd, John, Joseph, George W.?, Sally, Tabitha, Nancy Ann,
and Mary Ann. Sally was married to Elijah McElfresh 2 Sept 1824 in Clermont
Co., Nancy Ann married Zadock McElfresh, and Mary Ann married Jesse McElfresh
(my family). The McElfresh's were all brothers.
