Hello,
My GGGreatgrandfather was Nathan Case supposedly born 1792 in the
United States. He was in Ontario, Canada by 1824 and married to the
daughter of a United Empire Loyalist ( Catherine Gallinger). Catherine
and her family were from New York and her line is easily traceable -
however, Nathan's background still remains a mystery to all of his
descendants and I am always checking any possibilities.

The inestimable ANNE FUTCH demonstrated remarkable loquacity and
elocution with the following verbiage ;-) :
>9. Aveline de Clare = Geoffrey FitzPiers
>10. Hawise (FizPiers) FitzGeoffrey = Sir Reynold de Mohun
Hi Anne,
I'm not sure if this means that Hawise was previously married to someone
named FitzGeoffrey before she married Sir Reynold, or does it just
identify her as Geoffrey FitzPiers' daughter, and the 'FitzGeoffrey' is
used as her surname because that was tradition???
These old naming ways befuddle me. ;-)

Edee:
Thanks for the data about Joseph Case and Sarah Phillips. Only one comment.
I have the pension papers for Benjamin P. Case, d: 23 jan 1863. His widow,
Sarah A. Hardwick Case married William Lingenfeter (also spelled Lingenfelter
in another part of the papers), 12 Sep. 1865. Makes me wonder if Benjamin
actually had a sister Sarah, or if Sarah Case (nee Hardwick)'s name was picked
up as a sister. (Of course, I realize that Mr. Lingenfelter could have
married two sisters, or sisters-in-law)
Benjamin and Sarah had two daughters, Alice E. Case, born 14 Dec 1854, and
Florence E. Case, born 10 Jan 1862. Florence died before the application for
pension in Feb 1863.

> someone could solve the puzzle!!
I thought I had solved this puzzle because I had researched it for some
time but now I don't think so. Here's what I do have:
>From Genealogies and Biographies of Ancient Windsor
CASE, John, m. Sarah (dau. William) Spencer of Hartford; res. in Windsor
until spring of 1669, when he settled at Weatogue (Simsbury). ...His
first wife died 3 Nov., 1691, age 55, and he M. (2) Elizabeth (wid. of
Nath'l) Loomis of Windsor, and (prob) dau. of John Moore of Windsor.
>From John Case and His Descendants
Compiled by Ruth Cost Duncan 1991
John Case was born in Aylesham, England and died 21 Feb. 1703/4 in
Simsbury, CT. He married Sarah Spencer, daughter of William and Agnes
(Harris) Spencer of Hartford Connecticut who died 3 Nov. 1691 in
Simsbury at the age of 55. He married (2) Elizabeth (Moore) Loomis,
daughter of John Moore of Windsor and widow of Nathaniel Loomis. She
died in Windsor 23 July 1728 at the age of 90.
>From New England Marriages Prior to 1700
Case, Richard (-1694) and Elizabeth (Purchase); b. 17 Dec 1663; E.
Hartford, CT/Simsbury, CT
And finally, from The History of Ancient Windsor, Volume II
Richard Case son of Richard and Elizabeth (Purchase) mar Sarah...
So, now what? Richard, son of John and Sarah (Spencer) Case was born
1669, but he married Amy Reade in 1701. Richard, the brother of John
was probably born around 1620 so he's not a likely candidate; but this
last reference says Richard, son of Richard. Even Richard's (John's
brother's) son Richard would have been 20 years older than she was.
Since John had maybe 4 male siblings that we know about, any one of them
could have named a son and/or grandson after their brother Richard who
could be the Richard who married Elizabeth Purchase. I'm certainly open
to other sources/opinions - this one's been bugging me for a long time!

Edee......I have the same questions. I have seen Sue Rodich shown as a
daughter-in-law of Wm Case (no source listed). Also have seen Eliz Purchase
as Wm's wife, as well as Eliz Loomis. (Again no sources listed.) But Eliz
Purchase is also shown as wife of Richard Case, which bothers me. Wish
someone could solve the puzzle!!
Douglas Richardson, in "The English Origin of Agnes (Harris) Spencer
Edwards" did a very thorough job of properly documenting Agnes' identity.
Some of this was originally published in TAG 4(196) :65-76.

>From "The Yankee Generation" by Charles Case - He has a lot of the NE
CASEs and shows Elizabeth PURCHASE d/o John & Joan PURCHASE
m. to Richard CASE - he bought land from William & Agnes
(HARRIS) EDWARDS in Feb 1669; Will dtd 8 Sep 1690 mentions
Elizabeth & her father and 3 minor ch. Richard, John, Mary & kinsman
Thomas OLCOTT.
The one thing I haven't figured out yet - which Richard is this??
Pretty well established that Elizabeth (Moore) LOOMIS was wf (2) of
"the" John CASE. She wid/o Nathaniel LOOMIS.

Edee - this from "Search for the Passengers of the Mary & John 1630" vol. 5.
Harris, Agnes (1604- a. 1680) of Cambridge, MA. English home: Baptized 6
Apr. 1604, Barnstaple, Devon, dau. of Bartholomew Harris who married
Elizabeth Colamore, 18 Jan. 1586/7, Braunton, Devon (4 mi. E of Barnstaple).
Her mother was dau. of Henry Collamore and Margaret Blight. Bartholomew was
mayor of Barnstaple (1602). Agnes Harris appeared in Cambridge, MA in 1632
when she m. William Spencer. She no doubt came on the "Charles" that sailed
from Barnstaple, Devon 10 Apr 1632 and landed June 5 in Boston. She probably
came with Matthew Allyn and his wife Margaret Wyatt, who were her relatives.
She m. (1) William Spencer and (2) William Edwards. (Ref: TAG Jan. 1988, p.
33-45). Agnes was a second cousin of Peter Collamore (b. 1613) of Northam,
Devon who came to Scituate, MA. Agnes' grandfather, Henry Collamore
(1542-1625) was a brother of Peter Collamore (b.a. 1537) who was the
grandfather of Peter, the "planter". Henry and Peter were the sons of John
Collamore and Margery Hext, grandsons of Peter Collamore and Isabel Cushe.
Margery Hext's parents were Thomas Hext (1480-155_) and Wilmot (Poyntz)
Hyllinge and her grandparents were Thomas Hext and Jane/Joan Fortescue.
The Tag article refered to above is a very good article. I have it here
somewhere but can't put my hands on it now. There is also a book "The Royal
Descents of 500 Immigrants to the American Colonies" by Gary Boyd Roberts
that shows the lineage from Agnes Harris to Hugh Capet, King of France. I
will post this lineage in a separate email.
