Margaret,
Could you please share where the name for Alexander's first wife was found.
We have long been told she was the daughter of Abel Augustine and Sophia
Stewart, but her given name was never known.
Regards,
Marjean Workman

I have been off the Cascadden trail for awhile - my great grandmother was
Melitta Cascadden, daughter of Thomas Talbot Cascadden, son of Wm. Henry. I
have scads of info after visiting St Thomas and Aylmer in Elgin county,
including tombstone photographs, if anyone is interested. Last fall, my
daughter and I attended the unveiling of the Augustine-Cascadden memorial in
Kingsville, ON, commemorating Alexander Cascadden and his wives, Susan
Augustine and Mary Bruner, where we were introduced to more relatives, and
gleaned more information! This past May, we were in Britain for three weeks
and visited Thimbleby, in North Yorkshire, where Melitta's husband, Robert
Peacock was a shoemaker, and from where he came to Canada in 1856. Melitta
and Robert settled at Wanstead, ON and raised 8 children (a ninth died in
infancy). One of these 8 was my Grandmother, Elma, who married John Ramsay.
The 7th generation now resides on the family farm at Wanstead. We hope to go
to Niagara soon, to see if we can find where Wm. Henry lived in Willoughby
township. He fought in the Battle of Lundy's Lane and I have his regiment
and number.
I have over 2000 names in my data base, most of whom are or were Cascaddens!
There are still a few blanks, but I would be happy to share what I have.
