Hi,
Since this is a new mail list, I thought I would introduce myself and begin
the discussion.
I am Marjean Holmes Workman, the owner of the Cascadden mail list. My
4g-grandmother was Elizabeth Cascadden, daughter of Alexander Cascadden and
Nancy Beal/Bayles/Bale. Elizabeth was born between 1812 and 1815, probably
in Malahide Township, Middlesex (now Elgin) County, Upper Canada. She was
married to Aladdin Perrin Stevens, son of Rufus and Clarissa Stevens, on 22
June 1834 in the London District (now part of Elgin County), Upper Canada,
by David McKinzie, minister of the Scotch Presbyterian Church. Aladdin and
Elizabeth lived in Elgin County for 10-15 years, and then moved to St. Clair
County, Michigan. Elizabeth died on 3 September 1874 in Port Huron, St.
Clair County, Michigan.
I am currently working on a book on the Cascadden family, descendants of the
brothers William Henry Cascadden Sr. and Alexander Cascadden, of
Pennsylvania and Lincoln & Elgin Counties, Ontario. My plan is for this
book to be done using the Register style, or Modified Register style, with
complete documentation of sources. This will be a hard cover book, not in
manuscript form. At least for the first few generations, the sources shall
be from original records, but the more recent generations will probably be
from submissions of descendants. Of course much work on the family of
William Henry Cascadden Sr. was done by Kathleen Cascadden Rowe in the
1960's and published in manuscript form about 1972. I am using her work as
a reference, and making many additions and corrections. I won't even
pretend to say that I am anywhere near completion on this work. I still
have many, many of the original vital records and church records in Ontario
and Michigan to search. I also have begun researching in Pennsylvania for
the family and I now have a photocopy of the marriage of William Cascadden
to Elizabeth Bayles in 1800. I also hope to include some information on the
Beal/Bale/Bayle family, since it would appear Elizabeth and Nancy were
sisters, or at least cousins.
My present quest is to find the location of the Bible of William Henry
Cascadden Sr. and Elizabeth Bayle/Beal. In the 1970's it was in the
possession of Arthur Cascadden, but letters written to his descendants have
been unanswered. If possible, I would like to obtain a photocopy of the
title and copyright pages and also the family information written within.
If anyone has any clues as to where this Bible now is, please let me know.
I hope everyone will enjoy this list for discussion and research on their
Cascadden lines.
