Hello Robert,
You must be the son of Earl Owen Cascaddan. I am Marjean Workman, the owner
of this list and also a descendant of Alexander Cascadden. My ancestor was
Elizabeth Cascadden, an older sister to your Robert. I am presently
compiling a book on this Cascadden family. Attached is a small bit of
information on Robert. I can send you more off-line.
Marjean
1. ROBERT CASCADDEN was born on 5 March 1824 in Upper Canada(calculated,
although the 1900 census gives the year as 1825). He was married to Evelyn
Anger, daughter of Reuben Anger and Laura Fox, circa 1848 (married 52 years
in the 1900 census). He died on 30 March 1908 in Speaker Township, Sanilac
County, Michigan, at age 84 of old age.
On 10 April 1841 Robert Cascadden was named as an heir in the will of
his father. As the third son he was to receive the front two quarters of
Lot No. 106 North of Talbot Road East, however Alexander gave a bond for the
southwest portion of this Lot, containing 50 acres, to John Pound in 1846.
Thus by the time of Alexander's death, Robert only had interest in the
southeast quarter of Lot 106. Robert quit claimed his interest in this
remaining 50 acres to Adolphus Williams, either at or very near the time of
his father's death, about a month before Alexander's will was probated.
Apparently he either needed the money or simply had no intention of staying
in Malahide and farming these 50 acres.
Robert Cascadden of the Township of Malahide, yeoman on 14 May 1851
quit claimed his interest in the southeast quarter of Lot number 106 North
on Talbot road East, containing 50 acres to Dr. Adolphus Williams for £50
lawful money of Canada. One half acre of the land was reserved, having been
deeded in 1845 to Daniel Pound, by Alexander Cascadden. This 50 acres was
all that was remaining of the 100 acres Robert was bequeathed under and by
the will of his father Alexander Cascadden. This quit claim allowed
Adolphus Williams, his heir or executors, to occupy and benefit from the
land after the demise and decease or marriage of Nancy Cascadden, mother of
Robert, and widow of the late Alexander. Witnesses were David Hutchinson,
one of the witnesses of Alexander's will and William Henry Cascadden Jr.,
nephew of Alexander and one of the executors of his estate, both of the
Township of Malahide, yeomen. Robert made his mark on this indenture. Note
that Nancy Cascadden sold her rights to this land, and to the other 50 acres
in the south half, in 1854.
Robert Cascaden was the head of household in the 1851-2 Canadian Census
in Malahide Township, Elgin County, Canada West. The household also included
Jemima Cascadden, Archibald Cascaddan, and Evelyn (Anger) Cascadden.
Although Evelyn was called Adaline. They lived in a one story frame house,
and the entire family claimed no religion. Living nearby were Robert's
mother and sisters.
Robt Cascaddan was the head of household in the 1861 Canadian Census in
Bayham Township, Elgin County, Canada West, on 21 February 1861. The
household also included Evelyn (Anger) Cascadden, Jemima Cascadden,
Archibald Cascaddan, Jacob Cascadden, and Mary Cascadden. The family was
living in a one story board shantee, with Robert's brother Hugh living
nearby. The family was Presbyterian. The children, Mary and Armina [sic],
had attended school during the year. Jacob is listed as a female, and some
of the ages of the children appear to be switched. One female child, age
nine months, had died of disease during the year.
Robert Cascadden immigrated in 1866 to the United States, according to
the 1900 census. However, based upon the birth locations of his children,
he probably came a few years earlier. He apparently never became a citizen
of the United States, being listed as an alien yet in 1900.
Robert Cascadin was the head of household in the 1870 U.S. Census in
Attica Township, Lapeer County, Michigan, on 30 June 1870. The household
also included Evelyn (Anger) Cascadden, Archibald Cascaddan, Melvina
Gertrude Cascadden, Jacob Cascadden, and Caroline L. Cascadden. Their Post
Office was given as Mill Station. Robert had $400 in real estate and $300
in personal property. Everyone in the household listed their parents as of
foreign birth, although this would not be correct for Robert and Eveline.
Robert and Jacob were noted as not being able to write.
Robert Cascaddan was the head of household in the 1880 U.S. Census in
Attica Township, Lapeer County, Michigan, on 11 June 1880. The household
also included Evelyn (Anger) Cascadden, Melvina Gertrude Cascadden, Jacob
Cascadden, Caroline L. Cascadden, and David Cascadden. Living nearby was
their son Archie, and his family. Robert listed his father as born in
Ireland and his mother as born in Pennsylvania. Evaline was shown with both
of her parents as born in New York. The children were shown with their
father born in Canada and their mother as born in New York, even though
Evaline was listed as born in Canada. Apparently there was always confusion
as to her place of birth. Caroline, Melvina and David had all attended
school during the year.
Robert Cascadden was a farmer in the later years of his life. He and
Evelyn Anger had ten children, six of whom were still living at the time of
the 1900 census.
Robert Cascaden was the head of household in the 1900 U.S. Census in
Speaker Township, Sanilac County, Michigan, on 14 June 1900. The household
also included Evelyn (Anger) Cascadden and Jacob Cascadden. The family owned
mortgaged farm no. 147. Living next door was their son David Cascaden.
Everyone in the household was able to read, write and speak English. Robert
gave his father's birthplace as Ireland and his mother's as Pennsylvania.
Evaline gave the birthplace of her parents as New York. Jacob listed his
parents as born in Canada (Eng).
EVELYN ANGER was born on 24 July 1835 in New York (calculated),
although the 1900 census gives the year as 1834. Her place of birth is also
at times given as Canada, it is unknown which is correct. Her name was also
spelled Eveline or Evaline. She died on 26 October 1902 in Speaker
Township, Sanilac County, Michigan, at age 67 of asthma paralysis.
Children of Robert Cascadden and Evelyn Anger were as follows:
i. JEMIMA CASCADDEN was born circa 1849 in Middlesex
(now Elgin) County, Canada West, (age 2 in the 1851 census and age 12 in the
1861).
2 ii. ARCHIBALD CASCADDAN, born 11 September 1851 in Elgin
County, Canada West; married Sarah Hosner.
iii. MARY CASCADDEN was born circa 1852 in Canada
West(age 10 in the 1861 census, but this is probably too old).
iv. JACOB CASCADDEN was born circa December 1853 in
Canada West(age 8 in the 1861 census and age 16 in the 1870).
v. DAUGHTER CASCADDEN was born circa 1859. She died in
1860.
3 vi. CAROLINE L. CASCADDEN, born February 1864 in
Michigan; married George W. Elston.
4 vii. MELVINA GERTRUDE CASCADDEN, born April 1866 in
Michigan; married James L. Redcliffe.
5 viii. DAVID CASCADDEN, born 16 January 1871 in Attica
Township, Lapeer County, Michigan; married Leddie (--?--).

My name is Robert Earl Cascaddan, 2692 Vine Street, Orlando, Florida
32806 and I am a descendent of Alexander Cascadden who was born in the
Parish of Drumholm, County Donegal, Ireland sometome before 1781,
Alexander and his brother arrived at Baltimore Maryland sometime around
1790. Alexander migrated to Canada. One of his sons, Robert, migrated
to Lapeer County, Michigan. He was my great great grandfather. His son
Archibald was my great grandfather. If you are descended from Alexander
and have information about that line of the the family please E-mail me
your address. I am especially interested in any information about their
time in Ireland or prior to that in Scotland.
Thanks
