While we are on the subject of spelling, I have found my Robert CARSCADDEN
spelled KARSCADDEN and KASCADDON in South Carolina records. I would suggest
we all check the indices for both first letters in Official Records.

Hi Paula,
Thanks for the reply.
I have never seen my William spelled Carscadden.
I have found the family in census records and it has been spelled
differently in every one:
Yates County NY
1835 Curscattin, William
1840 Cuscatin, William
1850 Curscaton, William
1855 Curscaten, William
1860 Criscaton, William
1865 Chriscaden, William
1870 Criscaton, William
Even though I have not seen it spelled Carscadden, I have not ruled out that
he was not from that family line. There were Carscaddens in PA at that time,
I just haven't tied them in yet. I have been searching since 1987 and have
found out a lot about the family after William but can not get back beyond
his birthplace. I did find a Fannie Ribble whose father was a William
Curscaton with a birthplace of Germany. If this was my William, then this
would be a totally different direction but can't find anything more about
them either.
Thanks, Judi

Hi Judy, I am also glad to see some more interest in my surname.
I am looking for William Carscadden, but my search is in Canada. However I
am
open to a new avenue (of-course) and will check what you have sent.
On the name Carscadden, one reason you may be havinbg trouble in 1800.
According to Edward Maclysaght, former Chief Herald, Ireland-'he knows of
no
reference to it (Carscadden) before the beginning of the 19th century." It
is
supposed to come from Scotland, but the name was "Garscadden"
It is not a common name and the margin for different spelling is high, (my
thoughts).
Good Luck in the 1800's and please let me know if you find the name as I am
getting close to the 19th century.
Sincerly, Paula Carscadden
