Hi Jeannine,
Nice of you to share that with us. What line of the Cascaddens are
you looking for. Maybe one of us has yours. I have a lot of people but
can't prove anything yet. There were so many spellings. Are you looking for
a William?

Subject: Pension Papers for Wm. B. Cascadden/Carscadden
I requested the pension papers for William B. Cascadden from the National
archives. He joined as a private in company B, 5th regiment of the
Michigan
infantry of volunteers on the 14th of January 1864 for three years.
It shows his name as William Cascoddon, William B. Cascadden.
The papers are primarily affidavits from his wife, Maranda CARSCADDEN, of
the village Orono?, Township Clarke, County of Durham, Providence of
Ontario. She lists her husbands name as William B. CARSCADDEN.
An affidavit by Luctta Gilfillan lists the name CASCADEN, and Maranda's
maiden name as SIPPARO or SIFFARO and states that William and Marandy had a
son, Banson? Gifford Cascadden, on October 4, 1863, Township of Clark,
County of Durham Canada West.
Another affidavit is by William's mother, Mary Robbins. She states "First
that she was the mother of the said Wm. B. CARSCADDEN by her first husband
Thomas CASCADDEN". She also mentions that she has another son named George
CARSCADDEN.
It seems that no one heard from Wm. B. Carscadden for some time and figured
that he must have died while in the army. Hence Maranda was trying to get
his pension as a means of support.
The War Department records state that he was mustered out with a detachment
of Co. at Chester, PA., June 21, 1865. While in the Army he had been in
the
hospital a time or two. Since they had no record of any further disability,
Maranda's claim to his pension were denied.
