Here is a Cascadden marriage I found in a North Carolina newspaper:
- Thursday 'Squire J. A. Ingram united in marriage Mr. Gus Cascadden and
Miss Mollie Benfield at the home of the groom's father, Mr. Amos
Cascadden, in Shiloh township. The marriage was followed by a wedding
supper.

Cousins,
I am decended from George Caskaden and Mary Unknown who lived in
Elizabeth City, NC. The earliest record I have found so far is in late
1806 when George purchases and immediately mortgages Lot No. 53 in
Elizabeth City. In 1813 he sold the furniture, etc. associated with an
Inn which they apparently owned, and two pieces of property.
They then moved to Alabama and I have a lot of information of them
and their decendants (they themselves had only one child, Eliza Jane,
who married a Franklin Robinson in Alabama) down to me.
BTW, Mary's will is about the most interesting one I have ever seen!
They consistantly spelled their name Caskaden, though some records
use Cascaden.
Questions:
Is anyone on this list related to this line? I would surely like to
exchange some information.
Does anyone recognize this family and know anything about their
ancestors?
Does anyone know how to contact the Pasquotank County Historical
Society? I sent a letter to their PO Box address as posted on the web,
but it was returned by the Post Office as being undeliverable.
Does anyone know of the existance of an early (ca. 1810) map of
Elizabeth City? That was why I was trying to contact the Historical
Society. The land deeds that I have all refer to lot numbers.
I noticed that when they were the grantors on a deed, there is no
record of Mary relinquishing her dower rights. I have not check other
deeds yet, but was this common in NC in the early 1800s?
Thanks for any help.
