Subject: [CASCADDEN] James Cascadden/Kiscaden of Pennsylvania
Mary,
Your James Kiscaden, whom married Rachel Riggens, was probably not connected
to the William Henry Cascadden and Alexander Cascadden whom moved to Ontario
about 1807. There were two James' in the early generations of this family.
The first James was supposedly the brother of William Henry and Alexander,
and it is said he died at sea about 1790. Beyond family tradition, there is
no proof he existed. If anyone has proof he existed, and survived the
journey to America, could they please post their information here? The
second James was the son of William Henry. He was born 22 Oct 1802 in
Pennsylvania and died 14 Nov 1855 in Malahide Township, Elgin County, Canada
West (now Ontario). He is buried in the Burdick Cemetery there.
There were however a number of other
Cascadden/Carscadden/Carskaddon/Carskadden/Corscaden/Kiskaddon families that
lived in Pennsylvania. One you might try is James Carskadden of
Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. David E. McLain published a 175 page
manuscript on this family in June of 1970 called, "Descendants of James and
Lettice Carskadden of Chillisquaque Township, Northumberland County,
Pennsylvania." It is available on microfiche from the Family History
Library, FHL Microfiche 6019469.
In brief:
James Carskaddon Sr, was born ca. 1732, and died in 1800. His wife was
Lettice.
As James Corscaden, he appeared on the tax list of 1769 Upper Paxton
Township, Lancaster (now Dauphin) County, Pennsylvania. James and Lettice
had children: John, James, Anne, Isabel, Catherine, Mary, Letitia, Hugh and
Jane. They moved to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania by the 1790 census,
where James appeared as Jas. Carscaddin, Sr. James Sr. d. ca. 1800 in
Chillisquaque Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.
There was also a Kiskaddon/Kiskadden family in Armstrong and Franklin
Counties, Pennsylvania. This was Christine Adams family, but I am not sure
she is presently subscribed to this list.
If you search the archives of this mailing list (probably 1999 or 2000) you
might find more on these families.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Marjean Workman

I am trying to trace the Kiscaden family; I have seen the name spelled
different ways including Cascadden. I can go back to a James Kiscaden who
came to
Kentucky from Pennsylvania. He married a Rachel Riggens who if supposedly
from
Maryland. They had several children one of which was my gr gr gr
grandmother
Lydia Mills Kiscaden who was born in Nicholas County, Kentucky 1813-1911.
Do
you know if this is the same family? Any help would be appreciated.
