Hi,
Earlier in my "stray" postings I had mentioned a John Alexander Cascadden,
his wife Mary Labodie and child Joice. At that time I could not fit them
into my family of Cascaddens in Ontario. I have now placed them in my
family, with John Alexander being the son or either Robert Cascadden, or his
brother William B. Cascadden. His mother was apparently Mary Scott, whom
did not marry either Robert or William.
John Alexander was first married to Joice McKillen, daughter of Benjamin
McKillen and Elizabeth (--?--), on 20 January 1875 in Lynedoch, Norfolk
County, Ontario, by George Chrystal, minister. He was married secondly to
Mary Labadie, daughter of John Labadie and Mary Robarl, on 11 February 1889
in Tilbury Centre, Kent County, Ontario, by Rev. William Forrest.
John gave his parent's names as Robert and Mary at the time of his marriage
to Joice, and as William Cascaden and Mary Scott when he was married to Mary
Labadie. In the 1861, 1871 and 1881 census records John appears with one or
both Lydia and Sarah Jane Cascadden, sisters of Robert and William
Cascadden. It would appear Lydia and Sarah Jane were his aunts, and John
was the son of either Robert or William Cascadden, sons of Alexander
Cascadden. However, both Robert and William were already married at the
time of John's birth. It thus seems probable that John was born
out-of-wedlock to William or Robert and Mary Scott. Mary Scott probably
died before the 1861 census, and John was raised by his aunts, Lydia and
Sarah Jane.
If anyone has more information on this John Alexander Cascadden, I would be
most interested.
Regards,
Marjean
