Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi List:
I am still looking through books, and found one which actually shows a
picture of a Cascadden in 1920:
Info I found:
"Life and Legends, A History of the Town of High River", page 112
Members from 1938-1974 - Tom CASCADDEN
Page 123:
School of Nursing 1927-1930
Helen CASCADDEN (Mrs. Edwin Service) of Portland, Oregon.
"Under the Chinook Arch, A history of Cayley and Surrounding Areas" page 256
Teachers: Kathleen CASCADDEN, no date, but seems to be around 1920?
"Leaves From the Medicine Tree" page 236
Constable CASCADEN (CASCADDEN) Mentioned at around P? (I can't read the name
of the town) 1893.
"Wagon Trails Grown Over:Sexsmith to the Smokey"
Papa Finton, A young Old-timer, is telling about his past-
"We lived out on the CASCADDEN Quarter. (north of Berts Baldereton)"
Page 427:
1920 Baseball game: "The winning run was scored by a hit from the bat of:
Kurly CASCADDEN" There is a picture of Kurley with his team, 1920. Kurley was
the shortstop. I will scan this to anyone who would like it.
There is also mention of CASCADDEN in the above book, under "When the
Pioneers Came" The print is very small and I will have to scan it larger to
read it.
I am now working on the spelling CARSCADDEN, and will post what I find.
Paula Carscadden

Subject: [CASCADDEN-L] Information on Carscadden's/Cascadden's
Hi List,
I have been receiving a lot of information on these family's lately.
On the CASCADDEN's:
Books that mention these names:
CASCADDEN, Henry--"Tales of the Medicine Tree" Foothills
CASCADDEN, Const.--"Tales and Trails" Foothills
I got a response to an email from a man who gave me a cemetery that has some
40 CARSCADDEN's listed. Two of them are mine. I have sent for the list.
In addition, Norm in BC has looked up some Death Registers and obits for
Carscadden's and sent them to me.
This is not a post about the selling of anything, but this man Norm will get
the obit from the newspaper and death registration for $5.00. Just to let
the
list know there is someone who will do this for a reasonable fee. It comes
in
handy for those of us who live outside of Canada.
Will keep you updated.

Hi List,
I received some info on CASCADDEN and CASCDEN from Grey County.
If you are looking for that spelling and would like the info, Please let me
know.
Paula Carscadden
Hi Marjean,
Thank you for the information, it is a possibility. I will check this out.
It's amazing that I can find an original receipt for him paying $1.00 in 1876
for the upkeep of his young son's grave, but I can't find his death.
I'm still hoping someone will find him and send him home to me as an email
attachment.
Thank you,
Paula
Paula,
I assume you have already checked the OCFA (Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid)
http://www.islandnet.com/ocfa/search.html, so this is probably not whom you
are looking for, but just in case...
Your James Robert wouldn't be the Robert J. Carscadden buried in the
Shelburne Cemetery in Melancthon Township, Dufferin County, would he? In
the same cemetery is Mary J. (Tate) Carscadden. Dufferin is next to Grey
County, so I thought maybe.
Take care,
Marjean

Hello Everyone,
I have been unavailable for the last few days due to sick children and the
snowstorm here in New England. I am just catching up on some of the
CASCADDEN messages and I have also received mail off-line asking that I, as
list owner, make some comments about the copyright issues being discussed.
First, I would just like to say that I think we have a great group of people
here, researching many different variations of the Cascadden, Carscadden,
Kiscadden, Garscadden, etc. name. Hopefully this mailing list is helping
each of us make new connections, and enables us to share information we have
found that might not relate to our own lines. I don't want to see conflicts
between any members upset this list, and I would ask that any problems
please not be discussed on this list.
Second, I have seen a couple of people unsubscribe over the last two-three
days, and I hope it has nothing to do with this copyright issue. Maybe they
are just taking a little vacation time :^). However, if this is the reason,
I hope they will consider coming back, since I think this issue can be
resolved. Or at least it should only be an issue between individuals, and
not concerned with this list.
Third, I do not know any of the details for the specific case mentioned, nor
am I a copyright lawyer, so I am not speaking specifically about anything or
anyone having to do with the Cascadden list. Please do not take any of this
as for or against anyone. I am just offering some information, and then I
would like to end this and move back to discussing the Cascaddens.
As far as information posted on this mailing list is concerned, the Welcome
Message gives the following guideline:
"6. Guidelines to remember: Any postings to a mail list or
discussion group are the property of the original writer
and are automatically copyrighted. Before you want to
forward such postings to other lists or groups, permission
should be obtained from the originator. If such permission
is not given, you are committing an illegal act."
For information shared between individuals, there has been a great deal
written in the last few months in various genealogical journals about this
subject. If anyone is interested in the concerns and various laws that
apply, I suggest they research in these journals or elsewhere, and keep this
off-line.
I hope we are able to put this behind us and to continue to share our
research o the Cascadden families.
