What follows are Casazza mentions in the New York
Times, 1884 & 1895.
Anyone have Isola connection?
In the July 16, 1884, issue of the NY Times, page 1,
there was an article about a cave-in at a trench being
dug in Brooklyn for the Wiliamsburg Gas Company.
Two men were killed in the cave-in. The next day a
third man was found dead in the trench.
The article below was in New York Times, Thursday,
July 17, 1884, Page 5.
A THIRD VICTIM
THE DEAD BODY OF JOHN ISOLA DUG FROM THE WILLIAMSBURG
TRENCH.
A saloon keeper named CASAZZA, of No. 24 Baxter-street
street, this city, reported at the Fifth Precinct
Station House, Brooklyn, on Tuesday evening, that his
cousin, John Isola, of No. 33 Baxter-street, was at
work in the trench at North Eleventh and Third
streets, Brooklyn, when the embankment fell in, and
that he had not returned home. Both the police and
Contrator Deeves's men assured CASAZZA that ISOLA, who
was on the time-keeper's books as No. 5, had been seen
to leave the works after the accident, and that he was
uninjured. ISOLA did not return during the night to
his home. Several of his relatives again called at
the Fifth Precinct Station House yesterday afternoon
and reported that fact. A force of men was set to
work digging in the trench, and at 6 O'clock last
evening ISOLA's dead body was found buried deep under
the wet mud. He was 23 years old, and leaves a widow
and two children. The body was removed to the Brooklyn
Morgue last evening.
