Hello Frank .... I think we have corresponded before. I have just read
your Post of last Oct. 18. I know I've been tardy. :>)
Thru the years there have been many variations in the spelling of the
Casavant name. However, one of these variations was never Casaubon or Cazaubon. I
have made a study of the Casaubon line and find no connectioon to a Casavant.
The Casavant name is not a variation of Casabon. And, the Casaubon name was
not the origin of the Casavant name.
Nor, was the city of Cazaubon. The Casaubon line originated in France about
1650 at St.Jean-de-Luz, Bayone.
Names originally described something - a trade, a place, a color, etc. In
our case, our name means: the house before or in front of (such as the
village, the stream, the church. etc.) Casa + avant. Names were very descriptive
and offered an identity. Dits enhanced names.
My published book "Les Descendants de Jean Casavant" covers this matter
further.
Norman Cazavan (Yes, I spell it different)
