Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
>Well, things are really moving. I know that you do not see that from your
point of view, but they really are from this end. We now have over 100
people working on the project and still room for more. Online, you will
note are the following counties or partial counties:
>Butte County Book One
>Colusa County Book One and Two
>Marin County Book One and Two
>Mariposa County Book One
>San Bernardino County Book One
>San Diego County
>Now for behind the scenes:
>The following counties are currently being transcribed:
>Butte County Book Two
>Humboldt County Book One and Two
>Los Angeles County Books 1-6
>Mariposa County Book Two
>San Benito County
>San Bernardino County Book Two
>San Francisco County Books One and Two
>San Luis Obispo County
>Santa Barbara County
>The following counties have been funded and ordered:
>Richard Finn and the Livermore-Amador Genealogical Society has just agreed
to fund and transcribe the Alameda County records so those will soon be in
>Harleigh Winkler and the Calaveras Genealogical Society has been
discussing helping with Calaveras County, but no commitment yet.
>R. Scott Sherman and the Tehama County Genealogical and Historical Society
has expressed interest in helping with Tehama County, but no commitment yet.
>Laura Tyler has offered the Yuba County marriages 1850-1920, when we get
to the marriages, which will be when the deaths are completed.
>The following counties are in desperate need of funding and donations:
>San Francisco Book 3-? for years 1873-1905 (1865-1873 om transcription)
>Del Norte County
>Santa Cruz County
>Donations are used for copying of records and postage only. They can be
made to the Project Coordinator at the address below. Much needed and
greatly appreciated is anything that you can offer.
>The following counties are still pending availability of records. Anyone
that can help in these counties is greatly needed:
>San Mateo County
>The rest of the counties, we can get the records, but we just haven't
gotten that far yet. Funding for those counties is gladly accepted and will
put their records into motion for the process of getting them online.
>There has been LOTS of interest in the San Francisco records that we have.
As we said previously, we have in excess of 200,000 death records for the
period of 1865-1905 that we are transcribing and putting online. We have
just started with these and they are definitely a gold mine of information.
Unfortunately, as with all counties, we cannot do lookups on the records
while they are in the transcription phase as the records are spread all
over the US in transcriptiion. We are working as fast as we can to get all
the records online and we are very aware of the demand. Please be patient.
>Thank you to all that have been helping with the project. This is really
going much faster than I ever dreamed of. I recently received an email from
a group in Louisiana who have been working for years on their records to
get them online. They were impressed with our progress considering the time
since we started (2 months ago). We could not do it without all the
volunteers, donors, and the support that we have been getting from all.
Thanks to all of your....
