Marriage date of 1613 for John Cary of Hackney is doubtless wrong and must be
corrected if the source can be rediscovered. Fairfax Harrison gives
conflicting dates for marriage of John Cary to Elizabeth Herford, i.e. 26 May
1604 in Virginia Carys p. 538 and 26 May 1609 in Devon Carys Vol II, p. 21.
Proof that their son John of Hackney was not John the Plymouth Pilgrim is in
The Heralds' College pedigree of 1701 which states that John of Hackney
married, left issue and "died about the year 1656." The pedigree was
submitted by his nephew namesake John Cary, the famous London and Virginia
merchant, who would certainly have known and said so if his namesake uncle
had gone to the Plymouth Colony.

I believe that the parish registers for Hackney for this period are still in
existance and have been filmed by the LDS church. It should be fairly easy to
corroborate the statements i the 1701 pedigree about John Cary.
