I am doing family tree research. I saw on rootsweb
were you posted a family tree of the De Brienne
family. I was wondering if the information you posted
has been proven? I have reason to believe that I am a
descendent of the De Brienne family. That line
supposedly runs into my Cary line and eventually into
my Eggleston line. Please write back. I would love to
know more information.

Hi Cassie,
As to whether this information is proven, I can say that the parents of John
Cary of Plymouth Colony have never been adequately proven, so all that Cary
ancestry that you see around the web for John Cary may be wrong. If your line
is through Miles Cary of Virginia or James Cary of Charlestown, their parents
are pretty much know.
Also the parents of William Cary (1492-1572), Mayor of Bristol have never been
proven either, although this line has been acknowledged as a cadet branch of the
amigerous family. So Guy de Bryan is probably an ancestor of this William
although the exact line can't be shown. The best research on the English lines
is found in the "The Devon Carys" by Fairfax Harrison,, DeVinne Press, 1920.
I know of no accepted research which makes a conclusive connection between the
De Bryan's of England and the continental family named DeBrienne.
