I am writing to some descendents of the above man who was married to
Hannah McNeely c.1820 in Cabell County, Virginia---probably what would
now be Wayne County, WV....I didn't double check that fact....but it is
my best guess without pulling out files and piles.
This information just came to me from my mother's first cousin who
visited briefly. I made copies of pages that she has in her
possession. She believes that they were written by Nancy Mae Sammons
who would have been a granddaughter of Benjamin Franklin's daughter
Nancy Carey Wooten. All of these people were living in the area of
Kentucky along the Tug and Levisa Forks of the big Sandy River and my
Aunt Mae (the author) was raised in Louisa, Ky which is where the two
forks join to form the Big Sandy River.
I thought that someone else might enjoy reading the information that I
am sending.....so here it is:
Page 1 Careys
John Carey said when I visited him in the fall of 1962 that his great
grandfather was a general in the English Army when he came to America.
He was Irish but English born, was an officer in English Army and was
the father of TWELVE boys.
Benjamin Franklin Cary (original way he spelled his name) was the
youngest of the 12 boys. John remembered one brother of Benj Cary's was
named Absolem.
John Carey's parenst were Henry Carey born 1838, son of Benjamin
Franklin Cary and Elizabeth Napier.
Henry Cary and Elizabeth Napier's children were
1. Marietta m. Marion Hatten
2. John
Will
Lewis
Henry C. youngest
half sister Eliza Hinchman
Mariah
Erie
then on the other side of the page she wrote:
Nancy Ann m. Silas P. Wooten
Jane
Fanny
The Nancy Ann I believe to have been the ....whoa....none of this really
matches what I have in my data base....I believe that perhaps the only
two who belong to Henry Cary and Elizabeth Napier Carey are the two who
are numbered. And then Aunt Mae began writing down the siblings of
Henry Cary instead of his children.....
OK. I am going to push send and start another e-mail...so that it won't
get too long and confusing. Marsha
