I don't know whether I have any connection to the Cary family at all,
but I am thoroughly stumped with my Martin line, so I am trying a long
shot.
My gggrandfather was Lucius Cary Martin, b. 1797 in VA. He later moved
to Wayne Co., MS, I believe by way of GA and AL. I am aware that Lucius
Cary was Lord Falkland and a hero in the early 17th century, so my
ancestor may simply have been named for a famous man. On the other
hand, I also know that it was often the practice to give children the
full name of their mother's ancestor, so....
My Martin ancestor was said to have had a silver shoe kit that was
brought to this country by his ggrandfather by way of the Barbados.
Are there any Cary researchers who have a record of a marriage between
Martin and Cary in the 18th (or even 17th) centuries?
Forgive the intrusion on the Cary list, but it seemed worth a try.
Thanks,
