Dear Jorge,
Hello. Who are you?!! What's your relation?!! Where are you???
I am the GGG Grandson of Delos Cary, b. 1808 in Madison County. I am currently
doing research on the Cary/Carey family in Madison. I know that Delos had a
brother named Samuel, b. abt. 1816. Samuel was a "pump maker." Delos was a
farm laborer. Delos Cary married Sarah A. Seamans and they had 16 children (14
boys, 2 girls). I have lots of information on the children. The family moved
around extensively in Madison County and they did live in Nelson in 1855.
I have not found Delos' father yet. There are two men by the name of Joseph
Cary (sometimes spelled Carey), that I have a clue might be related. One was
Joseph B. Cary who was born in 1759. He served in the CT line of the American
Revolution. After the War he relocated to Nelson then moved to Lenox (in
Madison County). He had 9 children (this is from Tuttle's "Pioneer Settlers of
Madison County, NY"). The "other" Joseph Cary had many children also
(according to the census) and he *may* have been the son of Joseph B. Cary. I
am thinking that Joseph (Jr.) may have been Delos' father (and perhaps Harriet
could have been a sister -- the time period would fit). There were only a few
Cary's in Madison County in 1800.
I don't recall seeing a Harriet Cary in my reserach. I do, however, have lots
of census records (both Federal and NY State) from 1790 to 1875 for Madison. I
will check them this evening for a Harriet Cary. I am sure you know that the
time period of her birth (1803/04) is a difficult one. Only the heads of
household show up on the census.
I have LOTS more information to share if you wish.
Write soon. I'm dying to find out your connection.
Cordially,
Kevin E. Cary
