Dr. Berry believes very firmly that John Cary the immigrant of Massachusetts is
the son of John Cary of Bristol and his wife Elizabeth Hereford. He says that
although the Heralds' College pedigree of 1701 states that the son John, b.
1610, went to Hackney, married and died about 1656, there is simply no evidence
that this happened, and that John Cary the immigrant must be this son John.

i have seen dr. berry's writing on this topic, but don't find it very
convincing. he concluded that he could find no other john cary who fit the
bill, but did no other primary research to support his conclusion in a positive
way. i wonder if anyone has examined the parish registers from hackney to see
if the herald's college pedigree is accurate, i.e. did that john cary actually
live in hackney and have children there and die in 1656? if so, it would
eliminate john cary & elizabeth hereford as parents of john the immigrant. i
wonder if these parish registers are available from the lds family history
library? i would remain skeptical without some proof that john cary and
elizabeth hereford's son came to new england.
