My Cary Connection:
I am searching for parents of my great great grandfater Jesse Annis Cary
born in Upper New York State on April 12, 1842. At the age of 5 his father
was killed by a falling limb. He went to live with relatives in Oshawa,
Canada (possibly Asa Annis - coming from Sheldon, NY) for two years. Then
to live with an uncle in Calhoun Co., Michigan. He went with an uncle on
the Gold Rush, but only made it as far as Pike's Peak (was he part of the
Wolverine Rangers). An 1850 Census record shows a Jesse Car(e)y (age 10 -
he would have only been 8) living with Jesse Annis m. to Polly (Waters),
with children Jesse and Cynthia in Fredonia, Calhoun Co., MI. Was there a
mistake in his age or is it the Jesse Carey who is 2 years older then my
Jesse?
Jesse moved to Oil Springs Canada sometime after serving in the CW 1861,
where he met his wife Reima Ward and eloped to Wyoming and were married by
a Rev. Black. They had two children: William Annis Cary and Edith Cary.
They eventually moved back to Tekonsha where he was a member of the Masons
and a sheriff in Calhoun Co.
A letter dated 1873 from Marshall, MI written to brother David mentions
Uncle Welton (probably Zephany Welton) visiting. Also mentions Josephine
dying and Charles coming soon after. A Charles Annis had a daughter
Josephine die in 1873 in Calhoun Co. Is he the son of one of Asa and
Jesse Annis' sisters or possibly a great neice?
Over the years I have found more clues and someday I'll break my
brickwall.
Thanks,
Denise
