Hi Jay
Thanks very much for the source, it's not one I knew about and I will
certainly look out for it from here on.
Nicholas I think lived in the parish of St Clements Danes in London and he
may have used that church - I know the Phillipps did - but I strongly
suspect he used St Martins in the Field. Quite why he says he is 'of
Hackney' I haven't yet figured.
I believe I am showing my ignorance of the times terribly and I apologise
for that!!!
This is a list of the London properties he left in his will,
Lease of houses in Southwark
House in St Clements parish
Estate in 'Lewit'? Court in the Strand
He left money to the poor in Chesterton in Oxfordshire, Stepney and Hackney
and Upcerne in Dorsetshire.
Its possible he was related to John in some way but I would be unable to
comment on this at this time. His will mentions brothers Christopher and
Bey (? poss Benjamin) and as far as I know he only had one son named
Nicholas. Others may have died at birth, he is very clear in his will he
only has three children, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Jaine.
I am visiting the Dorset record office soon and wish to get as much
information to hand as I can before I do so.
It just strikes me he was a man of some substance and so it is possible
there is some history to be found, I'm sure I'll be proved wrong.
There is a PCC will online at the Kew for one John Cary of Smyrna 1676, he
begins by saying he is a London Merchant. If you would like a copy I can
mail it to you, it mentions the parish he was born in and strikes me as
being the will of a young man.
Thanks for your time, much appreciated!
Pippa

If you look at the following source, you will note that there is a
John
Cary
listed who is said to have moved to Hackney and had issue there. His
birthdate
is circa 1610. I have examined transcripts of the Hackney church
records
but
