O.K. ladies, I have to join in here. I am also doing Cary/Carey research
and feel that I also am researching a forgotten line. I am looking for a
William (Bill) Cary that was born approximately 1840-1849 in Tn. and married
a Matilda Myracle. According to the 1880 Henderson Co. Tn. census William's
father was born in NC. William is my husbands ggrandfather and he is our
brick wall. We can't connect him to any of the Cary families that were here
at that time but due to the census we think he is connected. Does anyone
have a William that might be him. By the way, the dark hair and thick
mustache and skin complexion fit my husband to a T. There had also been
talk in the past about the Cary nose. Not sure about the ears. Anybody
have a clue to this William cause the family resemblance's are
there...definitely.

Wendy,
I cannot prove a connection to your Cary line, but it did intrigue me. I
cannot get beyond my ggrandfather, John D. Cary, who was born in NC Sept.
8,
1844, married Lizzie Baker (often recorded as Eliza in legal
documents) in
Hawkins Co., TN April 6, 1866 and died Feb. 27, 1904 in Hamblen Co., TN.
John's in-laws were Joseph Albert Baker and Liza Couch who were married at
Hillsborough, NC March 15, 1842. Witnesses to their marriage were Levi
McCollum and Nellie Woods and Wm. Nelson Esq. signed the marriage
certificate. Although I have not been able to travel to these areas to
research, I have thought that maybe John D. Cary may have been born in the
same area the Bakers were from and possibly the two families went to TN
together. The Bakers had two children while living in NC, Caroline born in
Caswell and Wm. A. born in Orange. They were in Hawkins Co., TN by 1851
where Lizzie was born.
As to your description of the Cary men, my grandfather had jet black hair
and
although not very dark, reminded me of a mid-easterner in looks. As a
matter
of fact, when I was little, I thought he was very handsome. He
didn't have
prominent ears, but all of us joke about the "Cary" nose.
I wish this would fit in somewhere with your Carys.
