John, I wish we could help you with your Kemp. Unfortunately, our potential Kemp
connection was in Virginia well before 1806. The wife of the Thomas Cary who died in
Chesterfield County, Virginia, in 1784, Sarah (Sally), born perhaps 1738, was alleged to
be Kemp, based on a having son named Kemp and based on a query in the William & Mary
Quarterly, Volume X, p. 209. As far as I know, there is no other documentation. If she
was a Kemp, her paternity is not known. The Kemps of Virginia (at least the ones Sally
might have been one of) were there before 1700 and I can't say whether they were
originally from Bristol. By 1806, our particular Carys had been gone from Bristol for
over 160 years. If you have not already visited their site, I would recommend the Kemp
Family Association web page at
http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/1926/
The KFA has been inactive for a while, but you may be able to find a connection with
another Kemp researcher there.
