I knew Bob very well and it was a great loss to me when he passed a way. It was his
grandmother Elizabeth Whitehead Heterick who did the genealogy. A copy is on file at the
Montgomery County (MD) Historical Society. Actually Bob's father is still living, in
his 90s.
Elizabeth Whitehead Heterick did a very good job, but there are a number of errors in the
report that I uncovered with some assistance from Bob. Hopefully some day I will be able
to publish it.
I had previously been contacted by someone with a list of generations to Elphinston Cary
but I have no clue how he may be related to the Gloucester County family. I think a lot of
Cary kinsmen came over in the 1600s during the time of Cromwell. With the destruction of
court records, it isn't possible to figure things out. I think DNA testing can shed a
lot of light. Unfortunately the Cary project has seen very limited participation so far. I
encourage as many Cary men as possible to send in a sample!
