I am hoping that descendants of the immigrant Miles Cary of Windpoint, VA (1623-1667) will
share their lines of Cary with me. I have been looking on the Internet for lineage
information but there is not too much posted that is dedicated to Miles Cary the immigrant
and his decendants. I would like to make a website containing the decendents of this Miles
Cary. Of course, I would only post the information for those who are now deceased and I
only wish for decendants to share information up to desceased decendants only. If you wish
to include names of those still living, please indicate that they are still living and I
will keep their information private and will not include them on the website.
I have started a preliminary website at the following URL:
http://www.sss.psc.wvu.edu/lwatro/miles_cary/
My initial goal is work on the first four generations first. I will be using the typical
genealogical numbering convention where Miles Cary the immigrant will be number 0. Each of
his children will be a one digit number base on their birth order. 1 for Thomas, 2 for
Anne and so on.
Next each grandchild will be a 2 digit number. The first number will represent their
parent's number and the second number will represent their birth order. So for
example, Col. Wilson Cary (1702-1772) will be number 61. 6 represents his father Col.
Miles Cary (1655-1709) and 1 represents that he is the first child of Col. Miles Cary
(1655-1709).
Using this number system, each decendant today could figure out his or her own number. For
example, my great grandmother, Lelia Corinne (Phillips) Brown Baldwin, would have number
6147197. Her mother, Narcissa (Nicholas) Phillips would be 614719. Narcissa's father,
John H. Nicholas, would be 61471. John's father, Lewis Nicholas, would be 6147.
Lewis's mother, Ann (Cary) Nicholas, would be 614. And, Ann's father, Col. Wilson
Cary would be 61.
I hope Miles Cary decendants will participate in this project.
