I'm not sure that's the same man. It seems to me that Fairfax Harrison, in
his book _The Virginia Carys_, wrote that there was a James Cary of
Abingdon, Gloucester Co., that had no known connection to the other Carys,
although it was possible that there might be some connection. I don't have
access to Harrison's book just now, and don't remember enough of the
details. Perhaps this is the James you are writing about? If so, I
haven't heard of any new scholarship that might connect them.
