Regarding the connection between the Cary's and Macconnell's: I believe that
Alexander McConnell, originally from near Glasgow, Scotland, who came to Bangor, Ireland
to engage in the Flax business, married Sarah Cary, daughter of Arthur Cary, Earl of
Huntingden. She had brothers Allen and Arthur. Alexander McConnell and Sarah Cary had at
least three children, Lucius Arthur Cary, Allen Arthur and Jane. When the flax business
failed, Alexander took Lucius in 1815 to Canada, settling at Simcoe Lake. Sarah followed
in 1820 with Allen Arthur who would have been about 8 years old. Evidently, they were
shipwrecked on the Island of Anticosti and lost all including the family papers but
survived. Lucius Arthur Cary McConnell married Mary Morton Huntley and had at least 7
children: John, William, Alexander, Sarah, Anne(a), Mary and Emma. John married Margaret
McDonald and emigrated to Ohio and finally to New York. They had four children: Jennie,
Arthur Lucius Cary, Mary Helen !
and Jessie Margaret. This information is from William's daughter Mary, c. 1925.
