Dear folks,
I saw this old document for sale on Ebay which concerns an illegitimate child
of Henry Carey of Dighton, MA. Perhaps some descendant might be interested.
It was described as foollows:
"This 100% Authentic Colonial American Document is on Hand Laid Paper. This
Document is Abigal Paul Single Woman of Berkley in The Massachusetts Bay Colony
own Confession before Thomas Terry Justice. That she COMPLAINETH UPON HER OWN
OATH AND ON HIS MAJESTY"S BEHALF AND CONFESSETH THAT SHE IS GUILTY OF YE SIN OF
FORNICATION AND THAT SHE IS GOT WITH CHILD BY HENRY CAREY of Dighton in the
county of Bristol SCHOOLMASTER and that that it is about 5 Months since that she
hath been with child by him & no man else. In Colonial America a women had to
confess her Fornication to a Justice to get them to go after the man to get
support for the child and that they did very emphatically pressured by the Towns
so they wouldn't have to be charged for her support. This Document is in Super
condition for being over 265 Years old. 3 1/4 x 6 1/4" $5.00 S&H&Ins.
