I am looking for information on my Gr-Grandfather William Henry Carey, born Aug. 11, 1868 in England. He married Rose Terry in Colombo, Ceylon, India around 1897 and my Grandfather, Mervyn Dick Carey was born there in 1898. They came to Canada in 1910. Can anyone help? Thanks! Debbie
Cary Researchers,
Regardless of who you are working on in the Cary family please take a minute
to read this message.
I am researching a Cary/Carey family line that everyone seems to be working
around but keeps leaving off some information.
John Cary m. Elizabeth Hereford (Eng)
Thomas Carey m. Jane Milner (Eng to Va to Md)
William Carey m. Elizabeth UNKNOWN (Md)
Levin Carey m. female UNKNOWN (Md)
William Carey m. Margaret Raglin (Md)
Samuel Carey m. Rachel Unknown (Md to NC)
Lets start here because this is where info gets left off.
Samuel Carey had brothers Michael and George. Unless someone tells me
otherwise I have information saying Samuel, Michael, and George Carey went to
Orange County, NC according to the 1800 census. (Note: There was another
George Carey in the 1800 census but he was not in the same area of Orange
County as the previous three listed.)
Samuel Carey had three sons by his will (YES, I have his will) Benjamin,
Thomas, and Gregory. No daughters were mentioned, but others say he had two
named Anne and Margaret.
Thomas Carey m. Elizabeth Roberts 4/1/1814 (YES, it is Roberts by the actual
paper Thomas signed) and then they moved to Tenn.
Benjamin Carey m. Ester O'Dear 9/4/1802 and stayed in Orange Co, NC
Gregory Carey (?) no information
Anne Carey (?) no information
Margaret Carey (?) no information
- ------------------------------------------------
Please if you have any information proving or disproving this family
information contact me to let me know what you have.
I am interested to know what happened to the following people and their
descendents:
George Carey
Michael Carey
Benjamin Carey
Gregory Carey
Anne Carey
Margaret Carey
I am also interested to know what records were viewed that proved the
following information and especially who the children were of each
generation. ( The only proof I have ever found of Samuel and Rachel
children's names are on his will.):
John Cary m. Elizabeth Hereford (Eng)
Thomas Carey m. Jane Milner (Eng to Va to Md)
William Carey m. Elizabeth UNKNOWN (Md)
Levin Carey m. female UNKNOWN (Md)
William Carey m. Margaret Raglin (Md)
Samuel Carey m. Rachel Unknown (Md to NC)
- -----------------------------------------------
For the Cary line that went to Orange County, NC there are some that did not
leave. I know were the oldest graves are in Orange Co. It is located on
private land and has been forgotten by all but two Cary family members. It
is possible that this is were Samuel Carey and Rachel were buried when he
died in Orange Co around 1818. I am in the process of pulling land records
to prove it is the same land that was owned by Samuel that ended up in my
family with Cary gravesites on it. Also, when Thomas Carey left Orange Co
for Tenn he had land that his father Samuel willed to him while in Orange Co
and he sold it to William Duke Jr. in 1822. Does anyone know anything about
the land he owned while he was in Orange Co? What information is there that
states the occupations of the Carys originally from John Cary descending all
the way to Samuel Carey?
I would appreciate any information regarding any person in this tree even
if you may think it is not significant. For example: My Cary's had a habit
of spelling there first wives/kids names Cary and their second wives/kids
names Carey. All of my Carey men have brown hair, thick mustaches, and it is
a male Cary trait to be tall, very thin, and have pertruding large ears.
There are also some that ran government steels and seem to have a liking to
working with and/or drinking alcohol.
Thanks,
Wendy Randall
(I need one piece of paper to prove a descendent of Benjamin Carey, my
gggrangfather was Jordan Cary of Orange County.)
What is the address to the new site? Will it be a site for all Careys
or just the Pilgram Careys? As far as I know, my grandfather James
Carey was born in either Canada or Dublin Ireland.
Andy
Hi James,
May I ask a question? If there is already a Cary
list (of which I am currently subscribed), why is
there a need for another list? I am somewhat
confused....
Thank you,
Brenda Jo

CAREY only to find out later their name was actually CARRURE in France and it
was americanized to CARY upon arrival to America. Therefore, my research
