I'm still looking for Joseph Cary who married Catherine (probably in TN since
she was born there). Joseph was born in VA in March 1799 according to later
Census records. I'm having difficulty finding him. I don't think he was in
TN (E TN) before 1810 so the following heads of household may be the Cary I'm
looking for. Does anyone know them? Can you confirm that the male child
(10-16 or 1794-1800) is, or is not, the boy I'm looking for? Does "Free
Persons" mean people considered Indians who ARE taxed? How do I find out who
they were? There are rumors about Indian blood in our family and there is
documentation that at least one male Cary married into Pocahantas' line. Are
these some of her descendants?
I'd like to know who all these people are, and their kids if anyone knows
them so that I know which to eliminate and which to follow up on. Even if no
one responses, follow up on 6 Carys is not too bad, though. Checking the
Free Persons group means 11 more families. That's a bit large. Can you
eliminate any?
Listowner: How many subscribe to this list?
Here's the key:
Males: under 10, 10-16, 16-26, 26-45, over 45
Females: under 10, 10-16, 16-26, 26-45, over 45
Other free persons in the family except Indians not taxed (What does this
mean?)
Slaves in the household

Please see message below from Bob Naugle, the historian for the Carey group in that line/area. Thought some others may be interested in the info on the Carey reunion in the Scranton area. As I understand it, it is mostly descendants of John B Cary, b. 1766 and Lucy McKay, b. 1770; and the Eleazer line. Of course, both of these lines are from John Cary, b. 1610 and Elizabeth Godfrey. If anyone knows for sure, please correct me.

I am looking for someone to take over the CARY-L(a)rootsweb.com list. When I
began the list, I was in search of my French ancestors who "americanized"
their name to CARY, but it has not helped me. I feel the list would be
better served by someone who is actually researching the CARY surname as it
is.
Please e-mail me directly if you are interested.

Pam:
Our Cary's from GunnVillage, MS. which does not exist any longer.
GunnVillage was located outside of Aberdeen, Mississippi and Okalona,
Mississippi in Chickasaw County. I only have two of the Cary's males un-
traced. James Greene Cary and Daniel Osborne White Cary. Daniel's family
lived in Aberdeen and ironically of all the lines: I have his uncompleted.
It is possible that one of these could be your connection to our family. You
might try to search throng the Chickasaw county courthouse in Houston,
Mississippi to 1885 or the Monroe County courthouse in Aberdeen, Mississippi
for wills or marriage records past 1885. My mother indexed and published all
the indexes in 1965 but they are but they are in the attic with boxes of
correspondence. I am publishing on the Mississippi Car's in Dec. and would
love the have something on either of the mal Cary siblings. Please keep in
touch.

Hello List,
Alice Irene Cary married Jessie Monroe Parker 21 June 1892 in Corinth,
Alcorn County, Mississippi. Children were Jessie Lloyd Parker (married Jewel
Gray and had a daughter named Louise), Ernest Leroy Parker (married Ruby
Callahan and had daughter Annice Lorraine. Ruby died in Memphis, Tennessee),
Anita Irene (married Lewis Blumenthal and went to Memphis, Tennessee), and
Nina Mae (married Samuel Oakley Gibbs and remained in Corinth, Mississippi.
Who were Alice Irene Cary's parents? Did she have siblings? She is my
husband's great grandmother through Nina Mae Parker and Samuel Oakley Gibbs.
Any hel appreciated. Thank you.
Pam Gibbs
To all,
My hard drive crashed (an all to common problem) on 4 August. I lost 84
emails that I was in the process of responding to since June 25thish. If
anyone out there sent me an email and has been waiting for an
answer/connection, please resend it possible.
Thank you,
Lisa Carey Larchevesque
Dear Cary researchers:
I am trying to find any information on my ggrandfather, Frank Cary, whom
was born in Iowa (exact part of Iowa not known) c. 1860. Please e-mail
if you are searching any Cary's in Iowa.
Thanks!
Kay Shackleton
