Hi all
Still looking for father of William Harrison Cary born 1830 in KY whose
father is supposed to be Benjamin Cary born 1806 in KY.
I was at the East Tn Historical place this morning and found the following:
1820 Boone County, KY census Benjamin Caree (head of hh) listed as age
45+
there is a son between 10-16 who might possibly be my Benjamin born in 1806
as he would have been 14
1830 Wayne County, KY census Ben Cary (head of hh) listed as age 20-30 as
he would have been 24
This one also lists 2 males under 5 and since my William Harrison Cary was
born in April 1930 I am hoping he is one of those 2.
Since these census only list the head of household first name, any
suggestions on where to go now.
Thanks
Cindy

Hi,
I just joined the list to tell you about a baptism certificate that
was among a lot of family papers. It's for Margaret Etty Carey,
daughter of William and Margaret, 18 Dec 1872. She was born on 14 July
1872. The father was a Bandmaster of the 4th Battalion, Rifle Brigade
at the Richmond Barracks, Garrison of Dublin. If anyone recognizes
these detail, please contact me. I'm sure there's a reason why this
paper is in with the family ones.

Hi all
I have been searching for Benjamin Cary who was born in KY in 1806.
I received a letter the other day from a relative - she states the
following
Going back on my list I took off the Book in the Newt Ogle home - to the
8th generation from my great granddaughter (and #19 top of my lists of
Careys) Adam de Kari, of Castle Kari, Somerset England b 1170.
Drops Down To:
19 James Christopher Cary of Scotland 1752 migrated to America 1772
20 Benjamin Cary of Ky b 1806
21 William Harrison Carey, from KY to Pigeon Forge, Sevier Co., TN 1830
22 Nancy Cofrdelia Carey (m Albert L. Morris) 1861
23 William Elihu Morris (cordelia Webb) 1891 - second wife Edna is who I am
corresponding with
She goes on to say Benjamin had 4 sons

Sorry this is to long - the following is "The story as it was told to me"

James Christopher Carey
b 1751 England. Came to KY i 1772. He was in a tavern and had to kill a
man. He went to sea for 5 years and returned to Grainger Co,, TN for some
time, returned to KY.
Son Benjamin Carey b 1806
Son William H. Carey b 1830 KY
He left Ky and came to Pigeon Forge, but Elihu and another record said he
was at Big Greenbriar (I read where he ran a mill there first) then went to
Pigeon Forge The Ogles lived in Emerts Cove, so did Albert Morris. They
married Carey sisters.
William Carey married Nancy Dyer (probably from Missouri) She is burried
at Middle Creek M.E. Church cembtary (no longer there, but close to mill)
William Carey married Jane Dyer - they are burried in the Glades Cemetary,
not far from Gatlinburg.
Do ANY of these names sound familiar? Especially the sons Jim, Ben,
William H., and Chris?
Thanks in advance

My ggg grandmother Jerusha CAREY HAWLEY (b. 1788) moved to Michigan with
her husband and children from NY abt. 1835. They settled in Napoleon,
Jackson County, Michigan. I don't know if any of her CAREY relatives
came with them but it is possible. I believe but cannot prove that
Jerusha CAREY was the daughter of Phineas CARY of MA, NY and/or possibly
Bucks County, PA. Jerusha's children were born in Lewis and Washington
Counties in NY. If I find any CAREY connections in MI I will post to the
list.

I have a Phoebe J. CAREY/CARY who m. Charles S. Brown in Kalamazoo area about
1855. Census records of 1860 and 1870 say she was born in Michigan abt. 1838.
She apparently died in Nebraska before 1899.

Cyndi; I only find one Carey in the Tennessee Census who says he came from
Ireland. 1850 Robert Carey age 69, in home Margaret 30, John 25, James 23..
however the names of your Cary's would lead me to beleave they were from the
old Cary family of Virginia. Henry watson, Milton, Richard B, are all names
found in Virginia. Also can you tell me where Grice's Creek is, I cant
find it on a map.

Has any one got Miles CARY b. 1622/23 Bristol, England. Father
John CARY Mother Alice HOBSON any further back and connected him to
the Devon CARY?
MY CARY's could easlly have come up from Bristol by the River Serven
(the longest river in England) to Tennenhall, Staffordshire. They
have the same name pattern as Milles CARY. Has anyone check the
parish registers for Bristol?
Marianne.

Hello,
I have just finished abstracting all of the Cary/Carey listings for
1830 and 1840 DE from the actual census rolls and am willing to do
look-ups for anyone interested in a particular Car(e)y who lived in
Delaware in either of these census records. Since the name Collins
Carey has come up in recent posts, I thought I'd go ahead and post his
entry here:
1830 DE, Sussex Co., Broadkiln Hundred
CAREY, Collins
males: 1 (5-10 years old) 1 (30-40 years old
females: 2 (under 5) 1 (5-10) 1 (10-15) 1 (20-30)
Total: 7 persons -- no slaves or free colored persons
I did not check the index to see if there were any spelling variations
beginning with "K". I would appreciate it if anyone who knows whether
or not there were listings beginning with "K" in either the 1830 or 1840
census would let me know about it.
Thanks!

My ancestor Christopher CARRE of Wrottesley, Stfs. UK.

Want help in untangling conflicting information on William L. CAREY,
born 1885 in either Kansas or Colorado. Family lore has it that
William was an adopted Native American. The 1900 Census for Otero
Co., Colorado has a William CAREY living with Egar CAREY and wife,
Elva. William's birth month was given as October 1885 and he was
listed as adopted. But a William CAREY, born December 1885, Navity
Kansas, Nativity American (Does this mean Native American??), was also
shown in the 1900 Census as attending the Colorado State Industrial
School, Golden City, Jefferson County. Is this the same William
CAREY?? A William CAREY married Carolyn Beltran on August 5 1905 at
Fort Garland, Colorado. William's parents were listed as Lawrence
CAREY AND Pacifica R. CORTES.
The 1910 Census show William CAREY in Castilla, Colorado with wife,
Caroly, children and in-laws. The 1920 Census shows William L. CAREY,
with wife, Carolyn, children, Edward L., Daniel, Frank, and William M.
William L.'s father is shown as being from Ireland; William's mother
from New Mexico.
The 1942 Death Certificate for William L. CAREY show his death date as
July 10. He was living in Seattle, King County, Washington. His
Occupation was a sheet metal worker with Denver, Rio Grand Railroad.
His father was listed as Lawrence CAREY, born in Ireland, and
William's mother was listed as Angeline Monteur, born in Colorado.
The death certificate indicates William L. was born 14 December 1882
in Colorado. Note this is not the same mother as listed on marriage
records?
If you have any information to help clarify whether William was in
fact adopted or can explain why two different mothers are listed
please help. If you are related to this William L. CAREY please
contact me and trade information.

like our family!
