Hello Susan. I saw your query on Bridgett Cary and William Bassett a
few weeks ago and meant to reply to you then but better late than
never. I too am descended from this couple although I seem to remember
that you were descended from her brother Thomas. I know nothing about
her siblings so would be very interested in hearing about your branch of
the family. I know a lot about her ancestors including the Bacons,
Bedells and Burwells and would gladly pass on what I can to you.
However, I am really looking for more on William Bassett. I don't
suppose you know anything about him or where I could look?
I live outside Newcastle in NSW, Australia, and am having a great time
on the Internet. It has really been a boon to me in finding my American
ancestors. My grandfather came here in 1908 but that is a long story
which I will save for another time.
I look forward to hearing from you.
All the best,
Robyn Lowndes.

Karen,
It certainly makes sense to me that a man named Henry CARY would have a
daughter named Lockey, since Henry CARY, son of the immigrant Mylles,
married Judith LOCKEY. This would have been too early for the Henry in your
posting, but he is likely a descendant (Henry son of Mylles died in 1720).
Have you ever seen anything called the "Cary-Estes" genealogy by May Folk
Webb (Mrs. James Avery Webb)? I have not, but would love to. It may answer
your question.

Hi, Caryn! Are you ready for some family history?
I have that Bessie Lou CARY was born 3 Jan 1895 in Cloyds Landing,
Cumberland Co., KY, the eighth of sixteen children of John Henry CARY and
Margaret Kathryn ABNEY. Her brother Olis Reed CARY was born 9 Sep 1901 in
Cloyds Landing. Several other siblings ended up in Illinois or Indiana.
This line descends from the immigrant Mylles CARY as follows:
Mylles>Thomas>Miles>Thomas>Robert>Wilson>Harrison>Robert Wilson>
John Henry>Bessie Lou.
Write to me privately and we can figure out how to get the rest of the info
to you. This is not my direct line, so you can fill me in on Bessie and
Allen after they left Kentucky.
Have a great day!
Susan Molye <molye(a)erols.com>
It may be a long shot, but there are a number of Cary's and a great number of
Thurmans in the Campbell Co /northern Pittsylvania Co area of VA. Many of
these moved west to KY from the Pittsylvania Co area. It might be worth
looking back. I don't know what time frame you are looking for.

Looking for parents of Lockey Priscialla Cary m. Benjamin Harrison abt 1741.
Lockey died 1789 in Cumberland Co, leaving land to sons Cary and Benjamin Jr.
(Benjamin Harrison d. 1761 in Bucknigham/cumberland Co testate). Believe
Lockey to be undocumented daughter of Henry Cary and Anne Edwards, although
not named in will. Many land transactions and other evidence lend credence
to this theory. Any thoughts welcome.
Karen
