Good Morning:
I need help finding the parents of my Great Grandfather;
Warren CARY b 31 July 1835 Trumble Co., OH
his occupation at time of enlistment in C.W. was harness maker.
Sheriff and Tax Collector from Commeautville,Crawford,PA at the time
He disappeared from a train in 1872, while going from Conneautville, PA to
visit his married sister,(name of ADAH ?)
m 27 Sep 1855 Sarah Jane BOLARD
children; Adah 1856 - 1858
Frank W. 1864 - 1865
*Lizzie 1868 - 1945
Frederick LeGrand 1871 -
Elizabeth was the first name of Warren's Mother
Father's name - ??? no clue!
*Lizzie is my Grandmother and she was dead before I started researching.
My Mother thought that Warren died during the C.W., but I have a copy of
his discharge and all of his C.W. pension papers. When he disappeared
there was a great search by my GGrandmo. brothers and the Government.
Interesting reading, but no genealogy data.
I have been in touch with the descendants of my Grandmothers brother,
Fred, but they didn't even know what Warren's first name was. They only
knew their Great Grandmothers name.
That brick wall is NOT tumbling where I keep hitting my head on it.
Does anyone have Trumble County, OH ancestors that recognize these meager
facts?
Betty in Calif., a descendant of CARY + BOLARD + HART + HOGE/HOGUE + HOLLY
+ McCRAY + McWHORTER + NELSON + NORTH + SAWYER + SCHOFIELD/SCOFIELD +
SPOFFORD/SPAFFORD + WAKEFIELD
It's truly enjoyable to read the postings to this list. I was hoping that
eventually someone would be able to help me find where my greatgrandfather,
John D. Cary, fits into the Cary line. Even though he has a living daughter
(she's in her 90s), John D. died 3 months before she was born, her mother
remarried, and she was told very little about her father. The information I
have on John D's descendants comes from family members and a family Bible kept
by a Baker ancestor. Here is what I have.
John D. Cary, b. Sept. 8, 1844 in NC, married (first) Elizabeth Baker April 6,

2) Allice b. June 21, 1872 in Hamblen Co., TN, d. Sept. 25, 1887
3) Abbie Hale (called Dock) b. Sept. 2, 1875 in Hamblen Co., TN, d. Jan.8,
1949 in

f. George Vernon b. Apr. 13, 1913, d. Aprl 11, 1987

Abbie married, second, Katie Hayes. They had the following children:
h. A. H., Jr. b. Sept. 1, 1917 married Georgia Gilliam
i. Robert Bevins b. June 6, 1919, d. Feb. 16, 1961
j. Edna Ruth b. Apr. 9, 1921
k. Mary Sue b. July 1, 1929, d. Mar. 7, 1997
I have information on all descendants of A.H. and Senia, and A.H.
and Katie.
John D. married second, Katherine (Kit) Harmon Feb. 14, 1892. They had the
following children:
4) William O'Nessie b. Aug. 25, 1893, d. May 27, 1894
5) Maude b. June 6, 1896 married Walter Minnich. They had 2 children, Roger

7) Virgil b. June 29, 1900, died young
8) Lula Irene b. May 15, 1904 in Hamblen Co., TN, married Herbert S. Miller.
They
had the following children:
a. Mildred b. 1922 in Hamblen Co., married Frank Ballew
b. Herbert, Jr. b. 1925, married Mae Peterson
c. John F. b. 1927, married Olesta Carter
d. Charles b. 1929, married Frances McKee
e. Peggy Ann b. 1932
f. Nancy b. 1934, married Doyle Morelock
I do have information on the living descendants of John D. Cary and both of
his wives. I would love to know who his parents were and where in NC he was
born. The only other clue as to his place of birth is that his in-laws, J.A.
Baker and Eliza Couch, were married in Hillsborough, NC and their two oldest
children were born in NC (Caswell Co. and Orange). I would assume that it is
possible that the Carys and Bakers knew each other in NC, but this could be a
real pitfall if I assume wrong.
I would appreciate information, suggestions, encouragement, etc.

Dorrie, I live in New York but was in a book store in Dallas and found a
plastic bag with 4 pamplets in it, two were from "The John Cary
Descendants" assocation, and the other two were "First thing First" and
"Virginia's Road Problem" by Hunsdon Cary printed 1922, so I paid the $7.50
for the 4 and ran like hell..
I have about 150 books written by or about Carys. I am searching for years
fora first addition "Virginia Carys" by Harrison Fairfax. Don't you think it
would be neet if we could have a big family reunion for all sides the Cary
family.???

Penny,
I have a possibility for your Pheobe. Several Hammonds moved from
Sussex Co., NJ to the Pontiac area in the 1830s and some Carys either
joined them or went to visit. My ancestor Stephen Cary was in Mich.
a few years before returning to NJ with a Mich. wife. It's possible
his sister Pheobe also went and you will find her with one of the
Hammond families.

I have recently completed an inventory of the Cary family papers in the
manuscripts collection of the Rhode Island Historical Society. Most of these
papers are from Benjamin & Susannah (Kent) Cary and their son, Nathaniel Cary &
Elizabeth (Wanton) Cary, all of Bristol, RI.
If anyone would like to see the inventory, please e-mail means I will send it
to you in rtf format.

Roger,
You might be interested in the book below. I saw a special illustrated edition
of it at a bookstore in Norwich, VT. As I recall, it was a little pricey for
me. It is fiction and features a sailor and explorer by the name of Cary from
Clovelly. Let me know if you are interested and I'll see if they still have it
at the bookstore.

I have very little information, but hope someone will be able to help me.
I am seeking ancestor information on Ila Ernest Carry/Carey. She was born
10/21/1883. I do not know her parents, nor where she was born. She married
Harry M. Wrenn 10/18/1903 in Craighead County, Arkansas. She died 3/20/1914
in Craighead County, Arkansas. I know she had a cousin, first I think,
Ollie Terry. She and Ollie mentioned Queen or Queenie. I know that Queen
was related to them, but I don't know how. I suspect she was Ollie's sister
or maybe another cousin. I think Queen may have married and moved to St.
Louis.
I have talked with my Aunt, Helen Willis, but she doesn't remember anything
about her mother either. As soon as the road is passable, I hope to got to
the cemetery when Ila is buried and take photos of the markers. Maybe that
will provide some clue.
I can supply more details about Ila and Harry and their children, and some
information on Ollie. If anyone sees any possible connection, however
faint, I would like to correspond with you.

I just thougt it would be fun to identify ourselves and our
relationship to John Cary the Plymouth Pilgrim. Nothing formal,
just an internet group. A "descendants of" group is a little
different than a "family association".
