CARWILE [1777--ca 1829] s/o Jacob CARWILE, Sr. [1751--1837].
Andrew Marshall CARWILE was enlisted (drafted) into the U. S. Army during the
Civil War on August 30, 1862. He was enlisted as a private in the 33rd
Regiment Missouri Infantry, USA at Benton Barracks, St. Louis. WHAT
COMPANY????
The following narrative is from a Missouri Newspaper. It is about the 33rd
Regiment of Missouri Infantry, USA........., August 20, 1862 at Benton
Barracks, St. Louis:
"Our company was not filled until yesterday and we were mustered into service
yesterday..........Our Captain's name is McKEE. We all went through a
thorough examination by the doctor and all passed but an old Irishman by the
name of John KEFFE who was in the Home Guards.........He was the only one out
of 23 of us that was discharged from the service. Andrew CARWILE had one of
his fingers off of his right hand, or a part of it at least, and he did not
get off............There were some ninety steet-walkers and rowdies of one
kind or another that were arrested by the police in St. Louis Tuesday Night
and brought out to the Barracks Wednesday to be put in the Guard House. It
was the intention to draft them in the Service of the Government."
Does anyone on this forum have a copy of the Unit History of the 33rd Regiment
Missouri Infantry, USA (UNION)? Does anyone have a copy of Andrew Marshall
CARWILE's service record? Does anyone on this forum have a copy of the URL
to order forms (NATF Form 80) from the National Archives, so I can order his
service record?
If anyone has information on life and date of death of Andrew Marshall CARWILE
please share it with me.
