Hello! I would like to correspond with anyone researching the CARLYLE line
of Gilbert de CARLYLE of Scotland ca. 1300, his son Sir William CARLYLE who
married Lady Margaret BRUCE (sister of King Robert BRUCE), through John
CARLYLE (1720-1780) of Fairfax Co, VA, husband of Sarah FAIRFAX (daughter of
Col. William FAIRFAX), and the builder of the Carlyle house in Alexandria.
I am particularly interested in the descendants, brothers, and cousins of
John CARLYLE. I am researching the family and ancestors of my
5g-grandfather, revolutionary soldier George CARLYLE (1751-1827) of Woodford
Co, KY (husband of Margaret CROCKETT), and I have found some conflicting
information on George CARLYLE's relationship to John CARLYLE. I had read in
George's biography in 'The History of Woodford County, Kentucky' By William
E. Railey that George was the son of John CARLYLE and Sarah FAIRFAX, but
this turns out to be unlikely. I have seen some evidence of other CARLYLEs
in VA at the time... and even a CARLISLE in
Woodford/Fayette/Jessamine/Bourbon Counties area in Kentucky that might be
related.
Is there anyone here researching this CARLYLE line?
Thank you!
