I saw this on sloat-l and wondered who this Phoebe is . . .
WorldConnect shows this same listing, from a Sloat Book, no further
info.
4-Orville B. SLOAT (Oct 1844-) [from Delhi, Delaware Co
NY]
sp: Phoebe A. CARVIN (Oct 1857-)
5-Effa J. (Phoebe A.?) SLOAT (Jun 1887-
There is a CARVIN family in 1880 Meredith, Delaware, NY, possible
parents of Phoebe A [but not shown with this family]:

and on the same page, second-door from Orville SLOAT, a Phoebe A [but
as a sister-in-law (perhaps widow) named VAN BUREN:

Phebe A. VANBUREN SisterL F S W 25 NY Occ: Dressmaker Fa: NY Mo: NY
This last Phebe shows NY for her father's birth (same as Catherine
CLEGG), while Daniel CARVIN [potential father, above] lists MA for his
birth. On the other hand, it's not too likely that Phebe and
Catherine are sisters, because of the age spread. Perhaps Catherine
was a VAN BUREN, and her younger brother died, leaving a widow . . .
but Phebe lists herself as "single", not "widow" . . . so perhaps she
is Catherine's younger sister, after all.
Any clues or ideas out there?
