Does anyone know of a Richard Carver born abt 1796 in South Carolina
according to the 1850 census in Missouri, maybe this should be North
Carolina. His wife was Mary A. (last name unknown) born abt 1809 in North
Carolina. They came to Missouri and had three known children, Joseph L.
married Miranda Ritter, George Washington married Winifred Watson and
Malissa Ann married first Charles Eastman and second Ezekiel George Jasper
Sullivan. There were other males and females listed in the 1840 census so I
am sure there are more children. I have been unable to trace this family
farther back than the Richard mentioned above. If anyone can help me, I'd
greatly appreciate it.

At first, I wasn't going to say anything, but I think, in the interest of
accuracy, it would be good to point out that not all Carver families in
early
NC records were from this line. My husband descends from the Quaker
group
headed by James Carver who settled in Bladen County, and they may or may
not be
related to the William Carver group of Cumberland County. It is of
interest
that William Carver and James Carver obtained land grants on the same day
in
1735. James Carver's line seems to go back into Pennsylvania, but I am
still
searching for better proof than what I have on hand.
James Carver obtained land grants in Bladen County in 1735. His children
were:
James Carver, Jr. ~ died 1753; married Elizabeth ______
Samuel Carver ~ died 1758; married Arcadia _______
Mary Carver ~ born 1718-19, died 1757; married Charles Benbow
Ann Carver ~ born after 1720, died after 1772; married William Maultsby
(This Ann Carver is sometimes said - wrongly - to be the same Ann Carver
as
the mother of William Braswell-Carver; she is not, as he was born in
1729.)
Descendants of this Carver line later moved back towards the coast, in
the
Pasquotank/Perquimans area, after most of the Quaker groups left the
Bladen
County area, later in the 1700's. I have been in contact with
descendants of
this group who still live in NC.
