Dear Tom,
You sure are. Many of us "Carvers" had been told we were descendants of
John Carver, first Gov. of Plymouth Colony but he did die without issue.
Robert Carver did reproduce before dying and you can easily search the
web for him and his genealogy is very well documented.
Compounding the problem is that a bunch of Carvers went to the South
where vital statistics simply weren't recorded as carefully or have been
lost and much important info is very difficult to obtain. Multiple
wives, serially, not concurrently, adds to the problem.
That is my problem. I am unable to trace past my ggfather in TN simply
because of a lack of accurate records.
I won't even mention the German "Gerbers". Gerber translated in to
English is a "carver" so now we have even more options.
It's an incredibly interesting journey and there are many "cousins" who
are very willing to help.
Best Luck and Regards,
Douglas Carver McKee

Message Board Post:
It has been a part of our family tradition that we are descended from
the Mayflower Carver (my great grandfather is Sam Carver of Martin
County Minnesota). However, recently I found a roster of the Mayflower
passengers (on the internet), of which there were two Carvers,
apparently husband and wife, who died the first spring, and there is no
mention of descendants. Am I missing something here?
