the martin carver i have as moving to rabun, georgia is martin b. march 1824, son of Jabel
(jake or abe) Carver and Nancy Leathers. he is recorded most often as the son of Richard
Carver mentioned in this post, i do not have documentation to prove it, but this is also
recorded on leathers family trees as well so idk. martin married rebecca brown, the browns
appear to have been neighbors of martins parents. he is buried in pleseant hill cemetery
in clayton rabun georgia. they had at least nine children: nancy jane b. 1847, John R. b.
march 1851 m. Sophronia Teague, Roxanna S. b. 1854, Martha Susan b. 1856, Amanda Adeline
b. 1859, Glenn Clayton b. Dec. 21, 1860 d. march 2, 1915 Flatts, macon county, NC. m.
Flora Carpenter, Martin Celeb b. 1864 m. Minnie (mnu), Andrew Jackson b. march 19, 1866 d.
march 3, 1925 tugaloo township, Oconee, south carolina m. Mary Mahaffey (spelling varies),
and Harriet E. Carver b. 1869 all born in Georgia, the ones without exact dates are
estimated!
years based on census recors etc.
this martin is often confused with a martin carver who is supposed to be his uncle, son of
Richard of South carolina, b. about 1805 spartenburg, south carolina m. Elizabeth (mnu).
the only thomas carver i have around this time frame is Thomas son of archibald carver
brother to Richard (unconfirmed connection at this time) and unfortunately no other info
is available other than he was born aroun 1755 and probably died in south carolina.
i have narrowed down the area that willis carver, son of richard was living on in south
carolina, it was in indian territory for a while, now is westminster/ wallhalla, oconee
county, south carolina, specifically around the Brass Town area which was at around the
time richard lived in the area considered an Indian town. I believe Willis lived on or
close to Richards original property because he is listed in one census near brother asa.
He sold wife Harriett (Mc)clannahan's dower property in 1841 i found this entry on a
public web tree and confirmed with documentation at the south carolina archives Date: Jun
07 1841

in 1850 his household was enumerated between asa carver and thomas broom families.
he is reported by another forum poster to have died from a self inflicted gun shot wound
shortly after the civil war and the family moved to tn. they migrated somewhere between
1865 and 1872 according to additional documents i have.
if any of this info helps place your thomas and martin, please give me a shout back so we
can compare notes.
this is the 1800 census info for the carvers of that area Date: 1800

i speculate that my richard carver may not be the same one as dawn watsons richard carver.
the joseph carver of that time frame i believe to be a joseph carver i found referenced in
another document which shows two carver brothers who migrated in the early 1800s from
ulster area. ill have to see if i can find that reference but it makes some sense to me
because it refered to them being of quaker origins or faith something like that (sorry
late at night memory is vague) but the following names in that line in the area are all
bible names like hosea an elijah, which are not that common in my carvers line. also, if i
interpreted the data correctly on the 1800 census, this richard carver does not match mine
and my richard carver was supposed to have migrated in or around 1822. another problem i
found is that in Text: book 'Virginia Militia in the Revolutionary War:
McAllister's data 1913' by J.T. McAllister. listed on pension rolls for virginia
militia pensioners residing outsid!
e the state of virginia for the year 1835 pg. 266 listing Richard Carver aged 70, pickens
dist. Sc notes from virginia miitia in the revolutionary war indicate that while Richards
unit which he was in as a sub for james (relationship assumed to be brother) was that of
capt. nathanial tate which in which in 1779 joined general gates in north carolina, this
is especially interesting since the year BEFORE, the company James is reported to have
been in by dar records capt. robert adams, in engaged in garding the lead mines. need to
do more research but its looking more and more like they are NOT brothers, why would
richard who is almost 10 years younger sub for brother a year AFTER he was drafted and
served so i am conflicted on the evidence, i am leaning towards there may have actually
been two richard carvers in the area when we thought there was only one and asa and
william are two different lineage families, not enough evidence to support either way so
in the mean time im !
chronically all the info i can find on both lines lol
