Well, we "thought" that Stephen was going to be the son of Michael and Elizabeth
Chandler Carver; but Matthew in MO now says "no"......so back to the drawing
board. The land in Harrison County went to the "widow Carver" in the will of
her father, Elias Humphrey in Switzerland Co. After the land (Harrison) was transferred
at the death of Emma Humphrey Carver, some of it went to Emma Carver Warner and her
husband, Hiram Warner and to Mary Carver Mead and her husband, Benjamin Mead -- this
occurred in a deed from Stephen A. Carver to his sister and brother in 1887.
The land in Switzerland County was sold to Elias Humphrey prior to Elias' death.
November 5, 1855, Book S, page 117 -- Stephen Carver to Elias M. Humphrey for $750.00 part
of NE 1/4. This is the same land that Stephen Carver bought from Moses Greeen on Sept.
20, 1849 Book N page 602. I think Stephen and Emma Ann continued to live on the land
after Elias purchased it from them -- think it was a "family financial deal".
We know that Stephen was in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census but not the 1870 and that Emma
Ann Humphrey Carver's obit states the date of Stephen's death but does not mention
where or how he died. It seems that if Stephen had been in the War it would have said
something flowery --- he served his country and paid the ultimate price...etc. Her obit
only gives the exact date of Stephan's death. Emma Ann is buried in the Mead Cemetery
and she has a nice stone. No sign of Stephen. Our poor Stephen....no parents!!!!
